With over 10 million active users and $90 million in venture funding, Life360 is the world’s largest mobile app for families. Today, we are very focused on location sharing and safety, but our mission is to become the must-have Family Membership that gives families peace of mind anytime and anywhere.

Our team is focused on building technology that helps families feel safe and together even when they are outside of the home and apart. From personalized location-based alerts that help make daily coordination easier, to advanced sensor tech that can detect if you are in a car crash and automatically send you an ambulance, we are leveraging smartphones to their fullest extent to reinvent how families get through the day.

You will be joining Life360 at a key moment in our history. We doubled active users and tripled revenue in 2017, and we are scaling our team to accommodate this rapid growth. We currently have 75 full time employees, with offices in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and San Diego.

Why join us?

  • We are one of the top 10 apps in App Store’s Social Networking category and Play Store’s Lifestyle category. Each engineer is working on an important part of the app for our growing 12 million monthly active users.

  • We doubled our active users and tripled our revenue last year. As we scale our team to accommodate this high growth, it also means more career growth opportunities for our engineers. We provide tech talks and trainings for our engineers to learn or improve different skills.

  • We celebrate wins, recognize contributions, and learn from failures. We care about each other and help families in need by organizing events like blood and food donations. We organize hackathons to encourage innovation and autonomy. Our communication is open and transparent.

Engineering team and processes

We follow the matrix team structure where we have functional teams and feature teams (cross functional teams). Our feature teams operate to two week cycles following the scrum process. In the beginning of each cycle, teams meet with their members to plan and estimate their features. At the end of each cycle, each team can show off their features to the whole company in the all-hands meeting.

Engineers typically work with designers and product owners on the spec for a feature. Once the UI design and requirements are clear, they would come up with a software design and solicit feedback from other engineers before start implementing the feature. We use Pull Requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews. We don't have a separate manual testing team. Our engineers are the owners of the quality of their work.

Technical Challenges

We have a unique set of challenges that are hard to solve. We move fast without suffering quality, and we continuously push the boundary of UI/UX excellence. We build innovative technology to use sensors on mobile devices to detect location, drives, and car collision while maintaining low battery consumption.

Projects you might work on
  • Build high-quality Pillar UI and can help others maintain it

  • Maintain and improve the location engine

  • Lead an iOS technical project of replacing the datastore with new technology and drive that to completion
