At Mashgin, we are developing the future of checkout experiences. We aim to reduce the friction between customer desires and their ability to be on their way.
In May 2022, Mashgin closed a Series B funding round at a $1.5B valuation. We are backed by some of Silicon Valley’s leading investors including Matrix Partners, NEA and Y Combinator. Our ecosystem is anchored by the only 3D computer vision and deep learning based checkout system in the world. We have 1,000+ locations world wide with customers across a wide spectrum of verticals including the NFL, MLB, Circle K, ampm, Aramark and Compass Group.
We value autonomy of ones work, a culture of respect for one another, and building products with empathy for our customers.

Why join us?
Get to work on a practical, working, real-world application of deep learning. Our product is currently used by thousands of people a day and will continue to grow exponentially. People already love what we do, but we're only at the very beginning of the improvement curve... 95% of our work remains to be done.
We have a small but growing team, where every engineer can and will have a huge impact.
We're in a big, but mostly hidden industry with a huge amount of potential. There has been little innovation in decades and we’re completely recreating the experience. And this doesn't include adjacent industries and opportunities we've already been talks about...
We have great backing from our investors with over $10M raised from Matrix Partners (Oculus, Lever, Xiaomi, Quora), Y Combinator, KPCB, Venrock and more. We just raised our Series A round and are ready to scale.
Engineering at Mashgin
Our engineering team is very independent. We have a short-term goal that fits with our longer-term plan, and each team member solves their part of the problem the way they think best. We have team meetings twice a week to discuss progress and help overcome bottlenecks. We like to get code out the door as soon as possible and see it working in the real world. Aside from critical parts of our product (like payment processing),
move fast and break things is what we're all about.
We're building a deep learning system that can: (1) recognize hundreds of items trained from limited data; (2) localize and segment multiple items in the same scene; and (3) use prior purchasing frequencies and item combos to adjust the Bayesian predictions. It's an extremely hard problem, especially when it has to beat human performance in the real-world with 1,000s of customers.
Build a system-wide data architecture that can securely sync thousands of machines and train models. This allows a new checkout item added in New York to be immediately available for recognition in California.
Create and deploy a deep neural net that detects whether items are stacked on top of each other.
Working at Mashgin
- We are hackers: we like to iterate quickly, getting things out in the world. This holds true for the non-engineers as well —there's nothing like real-world data to make a product better.
- Everyone, no matter the role, regularly interacts with customers.
- Even with specialized roles, we're all generalists at heart. We like to wear multiple hats and give everyone the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone and work on something they're not familiar with.
- We don't take ourselves too seriously and want to keep it that way :P
Most Mashginites are in office from 10am - 7pm, but we are very flexible. We have some who come in later and earlier.
We offer relocation of $7,500 max, on case by case basis
Our Engineers are allowed to go to conferences or trade shows....
