We're building tools to capture data that's never been tracked digitally before.
By taking real world certifications online, we create huge value by making them hard to forge tracking how people use them. This can have direct impact, e.g., by as skydiving certifications have moved to Merit they've become impossible to forge or embellish, potentially reducing the number of accidents that happen every year.
We're gaining traction.
Merit is used by hundreds of organizations across various industries, including most major skydiving certifications and dropzones in the US, dozens of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) programs, and assorted organizations in industries like Work at Heights, arboriculture, construction, and arson investigation.
We're well-funded by top venture capital firms including Andreessen Horowitz and Greylock Partners and some of Silicon Valley's top angel investors.
Our team is still small and early-stage, so you'll have meaningful ownership and impact.
We're at about 75 total employees and 25 engineers, so you'll get to significantly influence the overall trajectory of the company and own a meaningful piece of the engineering infrastructure and product.
We do a company offsite every couple of months that involves getting a real-world certification. In the past we've done everything from survival training and surf lessons to blacksmithing and glassblowing.
Our engineering team operates on a 2 week cycle in close collaboration with our product team. We start every sprint with planning. Our engineers complete user story and design reviews before implementation. We use Git PRs to perform code reviews. At the end of the sprint we conduct a review/retrospective to discuss learnings and close the sprint with a fun show & tell activity. Our team structure is very flat & flexible to maximize productivity & communication and minimize inefficiencies.
We are migrating from Scala based monolith to a Golang based microservices architecture, while adding new complex features for our customers.
Design and implement end-to-end flows on our platform that consists of microservice in Go, REST and GraphQL APIs, frontend web, and mobile apps
Build web and mobile tools and SDKs to help organizations and developers build Merit verification into existing processes and tools, saving them countless hours and errors
Use Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform to deploy and scale our microservices across our fleet on Google Cloud Platform. Use tools like Prometheus and OpenTracing to improve our infrastructure as we scale.
We've created a collegial, focused, and fun environment near San Francisco in a small Millbrae office suite and are constantly investing in opportunities for our employees to earn their own Merits as they grow both as people and professional engineers. We provide exceptional healthcare, are constantly looking for ways to volunteer together, sponsor full access to every Coursera course, and offer compelling equity and salary packages.
Merit is venture-backed by the top VCs including Bow, Andreessen Horowitz and Greylock Partners.
At Merit, we don’t just accept difference—we celebrate, support, and value it for the innate benefit of our employees, the competitive advantage of our products, and the strength of the communities we are a part of. Merit is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or veteran status. We will do our best to accommodate any disabilities or special needs you may have.
We offer a generous relocation stipend for engineers who need to relocate from their current home to the Bay Area.
We have regular team lunches as well as company-sponsored dinner delivery for engineers working late.
We have an annual work-free multiday Camp Merit
with the whole team, as well as regular off-sites where we learn new Merit-certified skills like rock climbing and skydiving.
Pets are more than welcome in the Merit office. We have one or two dog guests on most days.
Engineers are generally expected to come into the office every weekday, but we're very flexible about taking full days off every couple weeks or more frequently if necessary for personal reasons.
We offer (pretty much) unlimited access to online courses and Coursera and pay for at least one workshop or conference relevant to your work (including travel) every year.
