Modumate is a next-generation 3D design platform for architects to design buildings, built on the Unreal gaming engine and offering advanced automations to improve users' buildings and workflows.
Hundreds of professional architects are using Modumate's Alpha build, and we'll release our public Beta to hundreds more in Q3 2019. Modumate's vision is to optimize their buildings' energy, water, carbon, daylight, acoustics, thermal comfort, and more - so you'll be responsible for a better built environment.
Our team includes a licensed architect (CMU), a 15-year veteran of The Sims/SimCity (UCLA), and an ex-Oculus senior engineer (CMU), and we're backed by 6 VC funds + dozens of angels. As we grow to 25-30 people by end of 2020, you'll be encouraged to grow into whatever responsibility you're passionate about - whether management, graphics, gameplay, AI, networking, or other.
Despite its professional use case, Modumate is a 3D video game, so building the product is an engaging gamelike experience that influences our tight-knit team's light-hearted approach.
Modumate's engineering team has a semi-sprint structure, but we are blessed with vocal users so we have a clearer 3-month roadmap than average. Every engineer owns a clear domain (with teamwork as needed), builds 2-3 features per three-week
Wave in direct collaboration with the Design team of professional architects, and maintains their prior features. Modumate is built in Unreal Engine 4 (C++), we use Perforce for versioning and collaboration, and every engineer commits production code daily after team review.
We are building: -the first Building Information Model in a game environment, which involves blending the semantic model of a game scene with that of a construction project. -an automatic floor plan drafting engine, to make construction a faster and error-free process. -a real-time collaboration platform (a la Google Docs) in 3D (a la Minecraft) using building components (a la The Sims). -custom physics models and simulations for resource use (energy/water/carbon/waste) and human comfort (daylight/glare/thermal/acoustic/navigability/airflow).
Working with professional architects, you would automate the (currently manual) process of drafting architectural 2D floor plans of users' various 3D designs in Modumate.
You will build a real-time multiplayer 3D document management platform, plus a cloud-hosted 3D asset database, and link 'em up.
Referencing or integrating Radiance (daylighting), EnergyPlus (energy flow), OpenFoam (CFD), and other open-source simulation engines, build a cloud-hosted physics simulation engine for users to evaluate their 3D designs.

We do Friday team lunches on our rooftop patio that overlooks Coit Tower, Alcatraz, Mount Tam, Transamerica Pyramid, and Chinatown.
