Mutiny helps SaaS companies personalize their website for each visitor, to engage and convert more customers. For example, we will dynamically change a website’s messaging (such as customer testimonials and logos) to match the visitor’s industry or company size. Our early customers include Gusto, Amplitude, Peerspace and Brex, and they are seeing up to 150% lift in conversion from personalization using our platform.

Big opportunity: For decades traditional B2B companies have relied on sales to personalize their pitch for each customer. As customer interactions have shifted online, over 99% of B2B customers today never talk to sales. Yet virtually all websites displays the same generic content to everyone. We are creating a new product category called audience-based optimization, to help companies personalize the online buying experience for each customer.
Seasoned founders addressing a problem they have experienced: Our founders are early Gusto employees that scaled the company from 500 to 50,000 customers. They experienced firsthand the limitations of generic online content and the poor user experience it creates. They built personalization tools in-house to grow Gusto's user base, and ultimately started Mutiny to create a platform so all B2B companies can implement personalization to engage their customers.

As a seed stage company looking to hire early engineers, you will be a key stakeholder in defining the structure of the team and how we work. You will create processes to enable rapid iteration, make architectural decisions that set the technical bar, and foster a collaborative, inclusive engineering culture.
We greatly value automated testing (we like TDD), code reviews, pair programming, and practical, effective infrastructure and architecture decisions. We care about best practices and are always learning new ways to improve our ability to write clean, modular code. We are a polyglot team by nature and look to use the right tool for the job. We invest in keeping our developer velocity high, are measured in when we choose to take on tech debt, and empower all team members to ship code several times each day. We keep process overhead a minimum while still ensuring team alignment, in order to focus on delivering value directly to our customers by engineering great products.
To deliver personalization at scale, 3 really hard things need to happen simultaneously: understanding the user, determining the most relevant experience for them, and delivering it in real-time with accurate measurement. The first and last ones are solved with great engineering, and the middle one is a product goal shared between engineering and design.
Understanding users comes down to creating a single, actionable profile about who your visitor is, by combining data from disparate sources. We maintain high-throughput pipelines that process data to continuously enrich a profile of a customer, leverage machine learning to surface clusters of users with a common defining characteristic, and target these profiles with relevant, personalized experiences.
In order to determine the right experience for a set of visitors, we guide our customers to personalize based on what we know works. Our system knows what characteristics define a user, what kind of experience they were shown, and how that affected their behavior. When we've collected a sizable amount of data, we will create machine learning models to leverage for personalization recommendations.
Our customers depend on us to deliver personalization to the right website visitors at all times. Uptime and performance are key metrics for us, as we are in the critical path of website traffic for all of our customers. We make extensive use of event-driven architectures using CDNs, utilize fast languages (like Golang or Elixir) for our critical user-facing services, and architect our systems to be resilient in the face of failure.
Own our data enrichment architecture, processing millions of events from various data sources to create a single profile of a customer. Leverage new data sources as they become available to expand the coverage and actionability of this profile. Keep latency to a ridiculously low number and expose these profiles over HTTP for use in the browser, as users access this data in real-time.
Own our machine learning infrastructure for identifying and surfacing audience segments ripe for personalization. Use data points from user activity, firmographic data, and HTTP request attributes to cluster users and present them as a group with a defining characteristic that lends itself to personalized content.
Design and build out the best in-browser web editor for customizing websites. Build an easy-to-use, rich user experience for leveraging data to serve users the content most relevant to them, all without any engineering experience on behalf of the customer.
