Narrator is a data intelligence company that equips decision makers with personalized actionable insights. More simply, Narrator is a fully managed, scalable data system, and comprehensive data analytics tool.
Companies such as Amazon, Netflix, and Spotify independently reached the same conclusion: as a company scales, making decisions with data requires a single data model. Narrator empowers our clients to leverage this new approach, understand their customers, ask questions only data can answer, and analyze data across all their systems using our simple proprietary Universal Data Model.
For each of our clients, we pipeline all of their data sources into a data warehouse and transform all of this data into one model: customers doing actions (the Universal Data Model). Given the simplicity and consistency of this data model, our clients can ask complex questions across their entire data system.
Narrator's AI, MAVIS, enables any client to ask
Does this data matter? and get their answer as an in depth
story: analysis with plots, descriptions, and insights backed by data science expertise. Having every company use the same data model enables us to build a library of algorithms that any new or existing client can leverage, thus truly democratizing data.
We're selling extremely well by word of mouth. We haven't started actively selling, and already have 7 companies of varied backgrounds (from e-commerce, to healthcare, to education) signed up. This means we're managing the entire data system and providing analytics for each of these companies.
Our founder has unique experience with AI and data systems from his time developing robots, autonomous vehicles, and missile defense algorithms, to building out the entire data system and data team at WeWork. This allows Narrator to build a system that scales, is reliable and makes very accurate and explainable decisions.
Our design team, comprised of early stage UI and UX leads from WeWork, Warby, Boxed, Zola, and Lucy, gives us the unique opportunity to bring their collective experience building world class brands and products to the world of data.
We currently have 4 engineers: 2 product engineers (React/Rails), 1 infrastructure engineer (AWS/Devops), and our Founder/CEO who doubles as our head of Data Science.
We have a super collaborative engineering environment. Regardless of experience (Data Science, Front End, infrastructure, etc...), we involve all engineers in white boarding sessions.
Being such a small team and with a relatively new codebase means that our engineers have a lot of autonomy and ability to influence patterns and technical decisions. We are very open to experimentation and new tools and technologies. We welcome your diverse background but leave your dogmas at home.
One of the biggest challenges you will face is understanding the way we have modeled our domain. We are a data company with a diverse group of customers. Our product is abstract enough to cater to this diverse group but still opinionated enough to do justice to the story that our customer's data can tell and convey insights from it. It's a fine balance and requires a lot of iteration.
Iterate on a particular page in the existing product. We iterate on our product for many reasons. Sometimes our models change, sometimes we want to add new features, sometimes we have new opinions about the UX, and sometimes our customers want something in particular that we feel would be a valuable addition to the product.
Build a plotting tool that gives our customers a dynamic way to visualize and graph their data.
We have a very open and honest culture.
Everyone is comfortable giving feedback to everyone (especially to our CEO), and we don't take things personally: we're all sensitive of each other's feelings.
We are laid back enough to have fun in a professional environment.
We love lunch. We make sure to always eat lunch together everyday away from our desks. In fact, our lunch discussions often cover how we as a team fit into society/tech/data/startup worlds at large.
We're not a
traditional startup. We don't expect people to be working 24/7 until their eyes turn red and they don't know what day it is.
We also love voices. You'll often find us doing very poor accents and impressions.
We love dogs! (we love other pets too, but that's all our building allows)
We offer TransitCheck for paying for your commute with pre-tax income
We currently work out of WeWork 110 Wall, so we're right by the water. You can take the ferry to work!
People are generally in the office between 10 and 5, but we're open to all working hours. Some of our engineers prefer to come in late and work late at night.
We encourage folks to work from home when necessary: waiting for a delivery, overseeing work done on your house, etc...
We all love to cook so we do a team dinner at least every 2 months.
