Nebra is an industrial and IoT solutions provider and reseller based in the United Kingdom. Over the past five years, we've grown gradually from an e-commerce store to an IoT hardware and software company. We started building Raspberry Pi accessories, such as PiJuice and JustBoom, but we have expanded into Industry 4.0 products, such as our latest Helium Hotspot Miners, along with our IoT Dashboard.

Nebra has grown organically without external funding. We are profitable and sustainable. We're looking for talented engineers to join our fast growing engineering team.

  • Revenue grew by over 40x in 2021 and the 2022 target is 10x. Nebra is currently the 4th largest manufacturer of Helium hotspots with over 19k already shipped.

  • The Nebra team has a history of being early movers in IoT. We were one of the first approved Helium manufacturers, leadership has built several previous companies using Raspberry Pis, and we are currently working on our 5g offering.

  • We are strong believers in free and open source code. Most of the code for both our hardware and software is available on Github.

Engineering team and processes

There is currently one 7-person engineering team, mostly made up of full-stack engineers. We will split up into teams as the headcount continues to grow. We use agile methodology with two week sprints, daily stand ups, weekly groomings, retrospectives, and planning sessions.

Technical Challenges

Nebra's work, at the intersection of IoT and crypto results in several fascinating, novel, and rewarding challenges. The core Helium platform is undergoing massive growth and it is a daily challenge to keep up with regular breaking changes while also being a leader in promoting better ways of doing things within the ecosystem.

As our business also continues to grow exponentially, we have to navigate scaling issues on both the hardware and software. We are optimizing our sourcing and manufacturing so that we can get products into our customers' hands quicker. Our SaaS web dashboard gives enhanced control to hotspot owners by letting them remotely track and manage their devices.

Projects you might work on
  • We love Raspberry Pis but the time has come to move to a new platform. As soon as November 2021, we plan to begin shipping miners built on Rock Pis.

  • Owning a Nebra miner is very profitable and our customers tend to larger fleets of miners (some are planning to deploy 10s of thousands). is our SaaS offering that enables customers to do large scale fleet management, remote monitoring, rewards splitting, and more.

  • Currently, Helium maintains a smartphone app that all hotspot manufacturers use. But within the next three months, that responsibility will shift to us. Although this presents a lot of work, this will give us more control of the entire flow and allow us to provide a better user experience.

Nebra has a flat org structure where all members are given equal access to information and opportunity to do the work they care about. Everyone, from the CEO to the support team, is highly technical and passionate about what we do. Although the work is very fast paced, we are dedicated to the mental health and overall well being of everyone on the team.

We are a remote first team and search for talent wherever we can find it. As a result, our team works from over 10 different countries across three continents. We want to do a better job increasing the number of women and people of color on our team.

We have a firm-wide meeting every two weeks to reinforce shared goals and get to know each other better. We organize randomized 1 on 1 virtual meetups for those who are interested. We will begin having company retreats as soon as it is safe to do so.
