Oliver Space
Our mission is to remove all the headache in setting up a new living space, and help people create a true home wherever they live. We offer a pay-as-you-go furniture and home decor service with free delivery and assembly, and the customer can decide to buy later.

Why join us?
If we are successful, we will transform the way people move and set up their homes. In a world of Uber, Rent the Runway, Netflix, and increasing trend renting homes rather than buying - furniture and decor is one of the biggest markets ($400+B globally) that have not caught up to the pay-as-you-go model. It's time we change that.
Our team has a ton of fun in a truly cross-functional, collaborative environment. We hail from companies like Uber, Rent the Runway, Google/Youtube, Brigade, and others, and are backed by top investors in the valley.
Only 3 months since launch, we are inching toward $1m in annual revenue. Customers love our product because it removes all the pain points of moving and setting up a space: picking out designs, paying thousands of dollars upfront, delivering, assembling furniture, and moving them again only a year later.
Engineering at Oliver Space
Flat and collaborative team - 3 engineers: 1 back end, 2 full stack with 5-10 years of experience. We have one week sprints that kick off by going through a backlog that has been pre-groomed by our PM. We do brief estimations on what’s reasonable to take on for the next week, and receive design mock-ups for each ticket. Throughout the sprint, we have a continued conversation with Product/Design to shape and improve the features that we’re working on. We use Pull Requests on Github to discuss changes and get code approved before merging. Overall we work in a very quick and agile fashion in order to get out an MVP that we feel good about and can iterate on while limiting future technical debt.
People know when they see a space they love, but they don't always know how to create that feeling for themselves. We want the technology that we build to help our users create spaces that simultaneously inspire them and feel like home. By creating flexible enough data models to allow us to learn and iterate, we're hoping to build a product that can guide users through well-tailored recommendations, visualization tools and collaborative experiences to their dream home. On our small-but-mighty team, we constantly have to balance and prioritize iterating quickly, creating a data pipeline that can help us learn, and avoiding future tech debt. Our time is split between building out products for our users to interact with and building out inventory and order management software to help our operations team move quickly.
Recommendation system - Understanding what is important in defining a user's space, and collecting enough information to connect that to the data on inventory and themes that we know about - Presenting that in a way that provides feedback to the user and connects to what they've told us - Full-stack project that involves data modeling what our operations and design teams know about our inventory, working with product and marketing teams to understand the most effective ways to communicate with users, and frontend elements to surface and visualize recommendations in an efficient manner
Data layer extraction - Taking our main customer-facing Vue app, and making it more mature by taking our one-off components and extracting data pulled from the backend into a more universal data layer that can be tested and shared by many components - This requires re-imagining how an efficient architecture looks in Vue and thinking to what will be most important to make us effective in delighting customers with feature sets we might speculate about in months or years ahead
Internal tooling - Work with our internal and external systems to provide capabilities for our operations team (as well as product management, marketing, design, and other engineers) to access internal data and get a sense of how our platform is performing - Working with Vue on an internal system for manipulating this data, as well as with a backend-focused API for working with order & inventory data - Building a comprehensive data model for what we call
last-mile phreshness
, which is a complex orchestration of fulfilling orders & assembling furniture onsite
