Engineering at Opsani

Engineering team and processes

As a small engineering team we have a flat structure, with all team members reporting to the VP of Engineering. Frequently, we form per-project teams of 2 or 3 people to implement a specific feature or component. As the team grows, we will form functional area teams, providing opportunity for rotation and for team members to grow into leadership roles. We follow Agile development principles, with a process that evolves as the team grows. We use github/gitlab and CI/CD; we do cross-reviews and provide many mentoring opportunities. Even the most junior developer writes code that goes in the product, starting from day one. We use, develop and contribute to open source projects.

Technical Challenges

There are always interesting challenges in the life of a startup that keep us innovating. Some of the technical ones we deal with every day include: - working with small data in AI: while most traditional AI solutions require many millions of samples for training, our solution is able to optimize new applications in a very short timeframe - creating a closed-loop control system that uses complicated, noisy performance data that in prior technologies required human analysis to operate an autonomous system that runs 24x7 - connecting our product and service to a wide variety of cloud technology stacks used by our customers with minimum effort; creating a vibrant open source community around our plugins

Projects you might work on
  • You will build innovative machine learning algorithms that learn application behavior and provide autonomous optimization in a small number of steps... and continue to learn and improve as new data becomes available. Our AI not only analyses—it makes changes in running, live systems.

  • You will build a multi-tenant SaaS service that operates 24x7, scales to millions of users and is responsive to events coming from human users and a variety of machine sources, including CI/CD and other DevOps systems, as well as cloud orchestration and monitoring systems. The service provides autonomous continuous optimization for high volume cloud applications.

  • You will build Open Source plugins that connect our AI product to a variety to leading-edge cloud technologies, such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, AWS, Azure, and GCP, as well as a set of classic and emerging monitoring and application performance management systems like Prometheus, Splunk, SignalFx, Datadog, NewRelic, and AppDynamics.
