Why join us?

  • Championing the Open Material model, we have partnerships with global chemical companies such as BASF and Henkel, which design and supply the materials which can be printed with an Origin printer. This allows us to focus on the technology behind a general-purpose and flexible printer.

  • With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Origin transformed its office into a factory, producing hundreds of thousands of FDA-approved nasalpharyngeal swabs, sold to test centers and hospitals. This demonstrated the viability of 3D printing for mass manufacturing.

  • As a Business Unit within Stratasys, our printers are sold by a globe-spanning sales team and a recognized brand. Fortune 500 companies are buying our printers for in-house

Engineering at Origin

Engineering team and processes

Our software engineering team is a tight-knit team. We use Jira with an informal agile process. We use GitHub for code reviews and CircleCI for continuous integration, testing, and deployment.

Our codebase is tightly integrated between the printers, backend, and front end and changes will often span multiple layers of the stack.

Technical Challenges

We are designing and implementing smooth, intuitive 3D printing workflows that scale from a single printer to fleets of hundreds of units.

Our product is not only complex from a software standpoint, but also requires strong understanding of CAD modeling, materials science, chemistry, and mechanics.

We're also building IoT sensor stack to make 3D printing as smooth as paper printing is today, using continuous time series collection, cloud data processing, computer vision and computational geometry.

Projects you might work on
  • Build smooth, intuitive frontend and embedded workflows that allow our partners to easily scale from a single print on a single printer, to millions of prints on fleets of printers. Implement 3D modeling and CAD features directly in a web frontend.

  • Improve print quality, speed, and reliability by improving printer firmware via a deep understanding of our 3D printing process.

  • Improve general backend infrastructure, including end-to-end QA, reliable and reproducible builds and releases, and careful technical debt management.

  • Build out our IoT data pipeline, collecting both time series sensor and camera data, and apply appropriate ML and machine vision analysis techniques.

  • Rearchitect entire stack to run in on-premise environments with no Internet connectivity.
