Maintaining a fully-staffed restaurant, every day, is nearly impossible. Trying to do so creates havoc for management and staff, while compromising quality of service and food for patrons. Restaurant workers want more control of their schedules and the financial security that comes with it. We're building a marketplace to help match culinary professionals to restaurant gigs.

Why join us?

  • We've tripled revenue each year for the past two years.

  • We've already completed over 50,000+ shifts at over 1000+ restaurants in the Bay Area and NYC.

  • Restaurant labor spend is close to $300B annually (1 in 10 Americans works in hospitality) on labor in an industry generating $800B in sales in the US alone. It's a huge opportunity.

Engineering at Pared

Engineering team and processes

The team operates on two-week development sprints. We plan ahead a quarter at a time and work with product and design to determine priorities, scope, requirements and time estimation. At the beginning of a cycle, the engineering team will review all features and make sure we budget enough time to launch a feature. Engineers typically work closely with a designer, product manager, and the operations team as needed to spec a feature and determine launch plans. We use Pull Requests on Github to do code reviews, and also have automated tests and always dogfood all features as a team. We're currently shipping two mobile apps (restaurant and culinary professional on iOS and Android), a restaurant web app, internal management dashboard, and our backend/DB.

Technical Challenges

We're building a real-time matching system to connect restaurants to vetted and qualified culinary professionals to help them run their kitchens and expand their businesses. Our system will use static data about restaurants and pros (i.e. cuisine, station skills, kitchen size, number of covers per night) as well as more dynamic data (views, waitlist, availability, location). This data will enable restaurants to be fully staffed, and provide flexible work opportunities for the millions who work in restaurants.
