Why join us?

  • The job. Feel good about what you do and what you're putting out into the world. We've seen firsthand the positive impact that games can make. Because of that, we leverage our commercial success to make a real difference: we have partnered with numerous non-profits, saved actual lives with our games, and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities. Players love our games’ focus on racial, gender, sexual, and identity diversity while holding us accountable when they expect more. The first time you get a thank-you message from a troubled teen player or their mother telling you that your game literally saved their life, you’ll know that you haven’t just found a job. You’ve found a purpose.

  • The people. Ask any Pixelberry, and they would say that the people make our company. Pixelberry would be nothing without its talented team of some of the game industry's most experienced game writers, developers, artists, and more. You would get to work with a team of people who are positive, creative, and welcoming! We don't just want to make fun games; we want to have fun while we're doing it. The entire company laughs through lunch together daily, lines up for movie field trips on opening day, and plays board games or runs DnD campaigns late into the night.

  • The future. Right now it's an exciting time to join! Pixelberry is growing our team in order to invest both in making Choices bigger and better while tackling some exciting new projects. Join now and make your mark on the next evolution in narrative gaming.

Working at Pixelberry Studios

Our company culture is welcoming, collaborative, and creative with a good work-life balance and inspiring leadership.

Diversity and Inclusion

We have a company initiative towards hiring more diversity in and are trying to source more women as well as candidates of color to continue to work towards that.

For example, we changed our hiring process for new writers to not require a professional writing credit to ensure we were not enforcing the systemic biases of the literary world in our hiring for writers. This resulted in us hiring new writers, including Black writers, who would not have passed the initial screen in its previous iteration.

We are also continuing to try and expand the number of female candidates on teams where they are underrepresented. In the past year, we have promoted both more women and women of color into leadership positions, including to our management team.

Our welcoming company culture comes from the interaction between higher-level company goals, the people we hire, and the games we make. In terms of the higher-level company goals, we have changed how we do things in the past few years to build a more inclusive culture from both a hiring standpoint and from generating employee resources to help that. The people who work at Pixelberry believe in the games that we make, and Pixelberry prides itself on its games and trying to consistently improve them to make sure our stories better represent the world we live in by changing how we tell our stories to the characters we present.

We are working on awareness and programs to help the company as a whole understand those from underrepresented backgrounds. For example, two of our writing leaders have taken a workshop by the Racial Equity Institute, and based on their experience, we are planning to conduct a studio-wide workshop with the same group to help us better understand the historical context that has led to systemic racism. Our writing leadership team is also looking at specific events and training sessions for our writers, with a focus on exposing our writers to new ideas and cultural experiences that they might not have ever personally experienced in order to better understand our characters' perspectives.

Additionally, our writing team has created a Sensitivity Team comprised of members with different backgrounds to provide advice and to help with more authentic portrayals of characters from underrepresented groups. The Sensitivity Team has also assigned members to help with projects that deal with sensitive subject matters and given them the authority to help course correct and educate when an element of story might include something potentially problematic or insensitive. This team has also helped to introduce scenes that give a more realistic portrayal of the hardships minorities may face. Taking on additional responsibilities, like this, is recognized during annual reviews.

Connect with our team during your hiring process

As part of our commitment to an inclusive workplace, we are happy to offer prospective engineers the chance to connect with our engineering employees who come from underrepresented backgrounds. It’s a way to get a better sense of our team and what it might be like to work with us.

If you’re interested in connecting with our team, be sure to bring this up during one of our introductory calls!
