PlayVS is building the infrastructure and official platform for high school esports. We work with game publishers and high school governing bodies to build and operate sanctioned leagues across the country. Our software products tie everything together, creating the world’s first fullstack sports platform. PlayVS is headquartered in Santa Monica, CA and rapidly expanding.
We're the only company in the entire world that has secured a deal with the NFHS (who run high school sports across the US) and our deal is exclusive. Nobody else can provide esports to high schoolers in an official capacity. This moat puts us at an incredible advantage.
Search @PlayVS on Twitter and check what players and coaches are saying about the platform and how much they love it. Our users are the best spokespeople we have.
We're backed by NEA, Science, the 49ers (yes, those 49ers), Kevin Lin (cofounder of Twitch), Michael Dubin (the founder of Dollar Shave club), Crosccut Ventures, Coatue Management, and WndrCo. They all believe that we're on track to absolutely own the market and have backed up those beliefs with sizable cash investments.
As product features and their requirements are identified, our team specs out the architecture and engineering work required to make them a reality. We organize work into feature-oriented sprints that groups of a few engineers at a time work together on, gathering support from other departments as needed. Engineers are responsible for testing and QA'ing their work to help ensure the quality of our product and codebase remains high. All engineers are also empowered to push changes to production and ensure service to our users is not disrupted.
Everything we build needs to scale instantly across every high school in America, and it has to do it in realtime. This presents some fascinating challenges that we, as engineers, get to work around! We're also unique in that we adapt around the needs of our game publisher partners to get gameplay data and stats for our players. We've come up with solutions for everything from REST endpoints to message busses, and we're constantly scheming up more.
Working with a new game publisher partner to figure out how to integrate their game into our matchplay/relatime stats system. This process varies per publisher, but it usually entails doing a deep dive on the game to understand the unique concepts of that game (how are scores calculated? what does winning look like? what stats are important? are there any unique elements of the game that won't slot in perfectly to our existing system?) Next you'll chat with our partners to discuss and brainstorm the best approach. Some publishers already have a full API architecture and are happy to give you an API key. Some have literally no third-party integration, and we have to build and document it. Most publishers are somewhere in between.
We're located in the heart of Santa Monica, two blocks away from the beach. How cool is that? We recently had our office space fully renovated and it is BEAUTIFUL. We also have a 10-computer game room for company scrimmages and events.
