Prepared
Prepared is hiring! Join an early-stage emergency technology startup in reimagining and transforming the 911 call to help improve public safety for millions.
We've built innovative software that provides needed data the 911 call. By activating Prepared Live, 911 dispatchers enable livestream, photo, video, GPS, and text functionality for mobile callers in real-time. Currently, we support dispatch centers that serve and protect more than 2 million American citizens.
Our goal is make that number 330: every citizen in the United States. We believe no one's life should be put in danger due to a lack of technology. We are steadfast in our commitment to spread this functionality nationwide
Prepared is backed by leading investors at Gradient Partners, Google's AI venture arm, First Round Capital, the preeminent seed investor in the US, M13, a former mayor of Washington D.C., and more.

Why join us?
We build software that saves lives. Within 2 weeks of launching our first beta software in a 911 center, we directly help save our first life on a CPR call. This is one of hundreds of critical incidents our software has helped on — I'd be happy to tell you more on a call!
We currently protect over 20M citizens across 300 cities. Our growth in adoption is a figure increasing exponentially. On track to protect 30% of America by end of 2023.
We've raised the largest seed round in the history of public safety: $14M Lead by First Round Capital (the best seed investor in the valley) and Google (strategic choice).
Work directly with our Co-Founder and CEO, Michael Chime — a 2020 Thiel Fellow.
We have overwhelming support from emergency service personnel who are working with us every day to reimagine how emergency services serve their greater community and make our vision into a reality. Our emergency services council includes the former superintendent of NYPD, former Superintendent of Chicago PD, former mayor of Washington D.C., high ranking members of Los Angeles PD (LAPD), New Haven PD (NHPD), and many more.
Engineering at Prepared
— Operate on Kan-Ban style, groomed weekly — Release at least once a week — Pull Requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews — CI/CD on master pushes to dev cluster — Staging and Production auto-deploy via tagged versions
We are connecting up to thousands of devices together on a campus to create a powerful live data collection system during an emergency. This system provides situational awareness to first responders and emergency services to help facilitate their response in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
Connecting all of these devices, processing the information from them, consolidating it in a format for emergency services to understand, and innovating the technology to provide additional key data points and insights is a technical challenge that we are constantly working on.
Emergency Dispatcher Dashboard (React)
You would be working directly with emergency services (EMS, Fire, 911, Police) to refine and build out the Prepared Live Dashboard. This dashboard allows emergency call-takers (who answer 911 calls) to take in and process an unprecedented amount of information during any emergency — Including live video, location, audio, multimedia, and text.
Emergency Responder Dashboard (React)
You would be working directly with Emergency Call-takers to create a connection in real time from 911 Call-Centers (who answer the 911 calls) to send data to First Responders (EMS, Fire, Police) in real time. This dashboard allows emergency responders to enter an emergency with clear context (instead of going in blind) thus better enabling them to do their jobs.
Backend Server (Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, PostgresSQL):
The entire system is orchestrated by a Ruby on Rails API heavily utilizing the graphql-ruby gem. You would be working on improving and optimizing the API's operations, as well as building new features such as support for live video and chat. This project connects the mobile solutions used by individuals in emergency situations with those that can help them in emergency service dispatch centers — its speed and efficiency will ultimately save lives.
Working at Prepared
As an early-stage startup, we value a scrappy, self-motivated, and entrepreneurial attitude towards work. You are not joining to just finish a task every-day, but rather to shape the direction of the company and what we do on a day-to-day basis. We love it when people go out of their way to make our product better.
The prepared team has identified the thing that we really value. For more on what we believe, check out our values page: https://preparedapp.com/values
Our team is hungry, energetic, and diverse in age and background.
Currently, across the team, we are 40% minority & 20% female. Our goal with this round is to increase diversity across the team — with a focus on diversity of thought.
We care heavily on improving talent density, encouraging debate and constructive criticism as we see those discussions as the best way to improve ourselves and our product offering. See Radical Candor on our values page: https://preparedapp.com/values
We have company game night every other week. Our favorite event is Jeopardy — we have a legend on our team (dylan) so the game is all-v-Dylan. So far Dylan is in fact in the lead. (beating the rest of the team). Other events include skribbl.io (Pictionary), Among Us, etc.
Before joining the team, you will meet everyone and get to know us as people so you can make a more educated decision before deciding!
As part of our commitment to an inclusive workplace, we are happy to offer prospective engineers the chance to connect with our engineering employees who come from underrepresented backgrounds. It’s a way to get a better sense of our team and what it might be like to work with us.
If you’re interested in connecting with our team, be sure to bring this up during one of our introductory calls!
