We're building a new kind of education company. Our goal is simple: help the next generation of kids be more ambitious, more creative, and learn to think for themselves—starting with homeschoolers.
Primer is an online community where 7-14 year olds spend their time coding video games, writing their own books, and exploring nature.

We're well funded by many of the top investors in our industry (Keith Rabois from Founders Fund, Naval Ravikant, Lachy Groom, Cyan Bannister, Balaji Srinivasan, Julia DeWahl, and many others), and are building a real business fueled by real revenue — not just venture capital.
We started Primer pre-COVID, and we are very focused on the long-term growth of homeschooling and other alternative education options, but we have also experienced very strong growth due to COVID-related school shutdowns.
Engineering at Primer
We strongly believe that small teams of exceptional engineers are orders of magnitude more effective and more fun to work with, so we're intending to keep our team small for as long as we can. We are a team of 4 right now: 1 iOS, and 3 full-stack web developers.
Building a new educational infrastructure will require to get a lot of things right—from obsessing over the tiny details of the product, to building ML recommendation engines and live video streaming infrastructure.
[iOS] Building fun ways for students to share project updates using AVFoundation, CoreImage, Metal, ARKit, and PencilKit (think: instagram stories, TikTok, snapchat)
[web] Building a feature that allows students to customize the CSS of their project journal pages.
[web] Building an internal tool that allows our education team to author new projects in Notion and then export them into our own rich component system.
