We are making the distributed web, though cryptocurrency operated infrastructure. We make two (layered) protocols:

  • IPFS is a peer-to-peer hypermedia distribution protocol.
  • Filecoin is a data storage network and electronic currency based on Bitcoin (https://youtu.be/EClPAFPeXIQ).

Our systems improve how the web works, based on protocols like Git, DHTs, BitTorrent, Bitcoin, and SFS. We are focused on providing (a) a data-locality aware, secure network stack for distributed applications, and (b) a model for ambient and network-efficient storage.

401(k) Contribution

US Employees: PL is currently contributing 5% of annual salary, in addition to your existing compensation, towards your retirement savings plan.

International Employees: PL makes a contribution to the governmental run pension plan. Depending on the country, PL may increase your base by 5% if necessary to equalize for fairness.

Other international contractors or part time contributors: Included as 5% of the 20% compensation gross-up.

Maternal/Paternal Leave

Eligible Team Members may take up to six months of paid Parental Leave at 100% pay. Parental Leave may be taken all at once or split into at most three separate periods.

Health Insurance

US employees: Health Insurance is provided through United Health Care. PL covers up to a total of $3,000 of the monthly premiums, including dependents. Medical benefits begin on the 1st of the month, on or after hire and terminate on the last day of the month on or after your departure date. Following termination, a US employee has the option of continuing medical coverage through COBRA at their own expense.

International employees: Universal health care system is paid for in the form of payroll tax contributions. Private health care may be available in certain countries.

Other international contractors or part time contributors: Included as a part of the compensation gross-up.

Generous Vacation

Protocol Labs offers flexible PTO. Use it to rest and recharge! No approval needed at this time, we may re-evaluate as team grows and evolves.

Free Food

To help out with some of your out of pocket expenses inherent to remote work, PL will reimburse up to $200 USD per month for necessary and remote work related expenses.
