Reach is seeking a Head of Engineering - Core Product, a people-focused senior technical leader and manager. This position would report directly to the CTO. The Core Products division at Reach is responsible for developing, testing and releasing all features pertinent to Reach’s flagship product, the Reach platform (programming language and specialized compiler). This leader will be managing fast-paced, rapidly growing, cutting-edge projects and push what has thus far been achieved in blockchain.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Engineering - Core Product will be a senior-level manager and have proven experience overseeing small engineering teams and leading engineers on highly innovative and sometimes complex projects. As we are a growing team, this candidate may occasionally be required to “get their hands dirty” and code. The Head of Engineering will be required to think strategically about Reach’s vision and how this translates into actual product development goals. The ideal candidate will participate in technical design of the Reach Platform, work closely with the CTO to make key decisions, and serve as the primary source of “ground truth” for the engineering department within the core product team, including engineering planning and execution. Given the company’s early-stage status, the candidate should be comfortable leading amidst ambiguity as they will often need to often pave a path where none has previously existed.

Collaborate closely with the CTO and take lead in implementing the tech strategy and special product development roadmaps as defined by senior leadership, providing feedback and insights where and when required. Manage and provide leadership for Reach's growing engineering team with a focus on execution, collaboration, and learning by doing. Make choices about project assignment within the team, and manage milestones, performance, and outputs. Provide visibility for the rest of the company into the engineering capacity, resource contention, and the impact of future work on the company's strategy. Continuously optimize our engineering process and standards to make our team as efficient and productive as we can be. Be an evangelist for the Engineering team and the work that it produces internally and externally. Work to ensure career, skill, and personal development for engineers within the team Build and foster a culture that includes teaching and learning, transparency, collaboration, and an urgency to deliver more value to our users through excellently designed, one of a kind products never seen before in the blockchain space Communicate new hiring needs to the CTO and CEO as needed.

Qualifications

Technical Experience

Approximately 8+ years of related experience at high-tech software organizations Must have experience building blockchain applications Experience in any and as many of the following: distributed systems, open source, databases, mission critical software, blockchain, digital/crypto assets Broad SDLC toolkit, knowledge of modern software development processes, and the ability to implement what works best for our company Despite years of experience, still able and excited about getting hands dirty and coding until the engineering team is completely scaled Current knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps and QA principles, tools and techniques, mastery of one or more object oriented and functional programming languages, exposure to formal verification, and experience with challenges of building distributed computing systems would differentiate exceptional candidates.

Management & Leadership Experience

Approximately at least 5+ years experience in people management Strong organizational and communication skills with ability to communicate technical information to wide variety of audiences Thrive off of leading and making decisions in the midst of ambiguity Experience managing small teams and providing adequate mentorship Experience managing engineering teams at a startup is highly desirable Master of working with distributed development teams, managing in remote environments, inspiring others, ensuring accountability, and building a positive team culture despite the virtual environment.
