Reactiv
Reactiv combines computer vision and gamification to make Physical Therapy easier and more engaging, increasing patient compliance and improving outcomes.
Reactiv is a mobile virtual clinic for occupational therapy, centered around interactive experiences. Get matched with one of our therapists who will design the best Plan of Care tailored to you needs.
Our application uses the phone camera to track your movements, and matches rehab motions with games, in order to increase engagement with therapy. Any phone can be used, no additional hardware is needed, and you can do your rehab from anywhere you want.
Reactiv is with you from the day your rehab starts to the day you are back to the activities you love. The experiences increase in difficulty as you get better, and we provide both you and your therapist with valuable data and feedback on where you are on your journey to recovery.
Why join us?
We have a unique and compelling telehealth platform tackling Physical Rehabilitation ($200B+), a market that was fundamentally transformed by the pandemic.
Our founding team has deep experience founding prior tech start-ups.
We leverage state-of-the-art technology, including computer vision and augmented reality, to make a real-world impact.
Mobile AR games are awesome.
Engineering at Reactiv
We have a team of 3 on the engineering side (React Native eng, Unity eng, PM). Our two cofounders (CEO and COO) are technical and define the product roadmap.
We use GitHub as our source control system, and we also use it as a project management system.
We typically have 6-8-week sprints that are focused on a specific, large milestone. We break each sprint roadmap up into weekly goals.
Our COO manages workflow between our design, engineering and QA teams, as well as our CEO.
We use cutting-edge computer vision technology to track the movement of body parts using just the RGB camera on your smartphone. Plus, we run a game on top of the CV algorithms simultaneously. We use React Native for our front end, leading to some interesting architectural integration challenges between RN and Unity. We also are a medical platform, so there are challenges around data protection and privacy.
Create a game based on Candy Crush mechanics that can be controlled with specific rehab motions for the hand. Detect the right motions and match them with the game to create an outstanding rehab experience.
Background: we use React Native for non-game activities in the app, and Unity for the games. Optimize the architecture of the app to make communication between the two parts as seamless as possible, and allowing for new games and activities to be integrated easily as we grow the app.
We need to build the database to collect data on our patients, but there is a lot of uncertainty on the long-term scope: (1) we are using a third-party medical records software to store some of the data, but we might not in the future (2) we are not sure we are collecting the right data in the games / activities / onboarding and it may change and (3) the type of patients we have is diverse for now, but we may narrow it down in the future. Design the database by finding the right balance between short-term needs and long-term technical debt.
Working at Reactiv
We value hard work, but also want our team members to be well-rested and energized. We want our team members to be excited about their work and to enjoy working at Reactiv.
Five out of seven of our team members are from minority groups. We have a very diverse team already, but we're cognizant of maintaining a high level of diversity as we grow.
At Reactiv, we treat each member of our team with utmost respect, regardless of different backgrounds or circumstances. We value everyone's presence, opinions and contributions.
Because we are a very early-stage, small team, we have not established any formal programs, but we are always happy to consider new ideas, and will formalize new programs as we grow.
As part of our commitment to an inclusive workplace, we are happy to offer prospective engineers the chance to connect with our engineering employees who come from underrepresented backgrounds. It’s a way to get a better sense of our team and what it might be like to work with us.
If you’re interested in connecting with our team, be sure to bring this up during one of our introductory calls!
