Lab testing is the key to a more personalized and holistic approach to medicine, and Rupa is paving the way with critical infrastructure for this next generation of healthcare. Through Rupa, practitioners can order testing not available through the average hospital, such as DNA testing, microbiome testing, advanced fertility and hormone testing, and more.

This comprehensive and personalized approach to healthcare is the missing piece for the millions of people suffering from complex, chronic health conditions. Engineering at Rupa Health

Engineering team and processes

You’ll be Rupa's third engineer (though our designer and our head of growth are also technical 😁)! You’ll be working directly with our technical co-founder who has 10+ years of experience coding, founding startups, and building multiple products in the health / wellness space. We built Rupa with some incredible full-time contractors (ex-founders, etc), and with recent funding, we're now looking to bring talent and leadership to our full-time team.

We’re a close-knit, scrappy, and hardworking small team, and that means we’re looking for talented engineers who can offer more than just code. You’ll work closely with the founding team to iterate on the Rupa Labs portal and build delightful new features for our practitioners and patients. There’s a lot of unexplored territory in this space, and we’ll be relying on your ingenuity and problem-solving skills to come up with novel solutions that can scale. We’ll also be looking for you to provide your thoughts on the product direction and UX design.

As an early engineer, you’ll be able to grow as a leader in your role and define the technical direction and vision for the company. You’ll have a lot of autonomy, responsibility, and ownership. You’ll also help define and contribute to the culture of the company as a whole.

Technical Challenges

• Building a new standard for lab testing. Part of our challenge is creating solid integrations with lab testing companies that don't have readily available APIs. Fun fact, almost none of them do...😁

• Our product spans beyond just a digital experience. We work with real patients who are doing lab testing — and thus have a heavy operations component to our company as well. There's a constant challenge of adding new features whilst ensuring 100% accuracy and understanding with the operations team. You'll be working cross functionally with every org in the team.

• Backing up a step, Rupa is basically Rippling for specialty lab testing: we’re taking a manual paperwork process and turning it into software, and consequently taking a slow-moving, high-friction marketplace and massively streamlining it. Personalized medicine is a rapidly growing market and lab testing is our first step in becoming the software platform it runs on: if you don’t have accurate diagnostic data, you can’t treat accurately or effectively, and we’re the linchpin. Determining our sequencing and technical strategy here will be critical.

Projects you might work on
  • Spec out and create an API to allow any EMR (electronic medical record) application to integrate with Rupa Health. This should include one click ordering from the EMR application and provide results back to the EMR through a webhook.

  • Build a portal for patients to login and check for updates on their lab tests. This should provide them with the samples current status (at lab, results ready, etc). You'll collaborate with product and design to ensure this meets the needs of our patients.

  • Build an intelligent onboarding process to provide practitioners signing up for Rupa with an experience that answers all of their crucial questions. Doctors are busy people, and they can come with many different needs. We have to show those docs we can meet their requirements in just a couple of minutes.
