Engineering at Seventh Ave
Our engineering is fully remote and runs on 2 week sprints. Work is assigned at the beginning of the sprint, at the end of every sprint we have retrospective and also a demo day.
We need to be able to scale to have thousands of people able to listen to other users in real time across different channels.
We're designing the core user flow of our News Feed. This consists of loading a user's news feed, scrolling through the list of conversations that are relevant to them, posting status updates, and having their friends' news feeds get updated in real time. We're Specifically designing the pipeline that generates and serves news feeds and the system that handles what happens when a user posts and news feeds have to be updated.
We want to scale to 1 million users, each with 500 friends on average.
Designing an incredible user experience on IOS, Android and Web from scratch.
You will be building Real Time Communication, we'll want to support:
Loading the most recent messages in a channel when a user clicks on the channel as well as relevant active conversations. Immediately seeing which channels have unread messages for a particular user when that user loads the App. Immediately seeing which channels have unread mentions of a particular user, for that particular user, when that user loads our App, and more specifically, the number of these unread mentions in each relevant channel. Sending and receiving messages instantly, in real time. Being able to join an active conversation and hear the conversation in real time and also interact with the conversation in real time.
Cross-device synchronization: if a user has both the Iphone app and the Web app open, with an unread channel in both, and if they read this channel on one device, the second device should immediately be updated and no longer display the channel as unread.
The system should have low latencies and high availability, catering to a single region of roughly 20 million users.
