Engineering at Side

Engineering team and processes

We have four teams in the engineering organization: Core, Marketing, Internal Tools, and QA.

We use agile, and teams either have 1 or 2 week sprints. We have well defined quarterly objectives and engineers are allowed to drive their path to hitting those objectives.

We use continuous integration and are in the process of upgrading from Travis to Gitlab.

We use pull requests to ensure a quality codebase.

We have a nice, mature, professional process that makes it easy to get quality work done.

Technical Challenges

Firebase is an amazing tool which helps us focus on delivering end-user value at an incredible velocity. Dealing with data in Firebase is unique, interacting with Firebase's backend services is unique.

Projects you might work on
  • We recently solved the problem of printing to PDF from the client, based on templates of marketing material defined in HTML. The user can select marketing collateral from a set of templates, upload photos, add and format text, and specify meta information, and then they can select 'Download PDF' which will create a PDF version of what they've just been editing in their browser.

  • We track our financial data in our application. There are many stakeholders who all need to know parts of a transaction. We came up with a flexible system to record this data. We also pipe this data into Periscope to create useful dashboards.

  • We are currently creating an Open House Tool which our agents will use when they show off properties for sale to potential buyers. This tool allows agents to custom-configure questions to ask prior to the open house. During the open house, a nicely designed form is presented to the potential buyer on an iPad. Once the information is collected, it is added to the agent's CRM, a follow up email campaign is started, and hopefully the individual converts to a client.
