We are the world's leading self-checkout platform. We power contact-free shopping in more stores around the world than any company, and are growing quickly. Covid-19 significantly highlighted a universal need for our products - that we had already been live in stores with for 5 years.

Why join us?
We are on the verge of profitability and we have an entirely new product with signed contracts that's set to triple our Annual Recurring Revenue in 2022 alone.
Our name is synonymous with self checkout in the convenience industry and we are known broadly as THE #1 company to meet the industry's demand by all the industry publications, standards organizations, and trade shows. Our customers continue to request and pay for every new product we have on our roadmap.
Our team has led the industry for 5 years and continues to execute on highly impactful products that our customers and their counterparts are searching for. The industry is eager for a new powerhouse to provide a single product platform for all their current checkout needs, and the inevitable changes needed in the future.
Engineering at Skip
Our engineering teams are split roughly into app developers and server developers. We expect Android and iOS engineers to collaborate to have a cohesive product that behaves similarly on both platforms. We use a Kanban-like process for development. We prioritize tasks weekly and the engineers work through the tasks. Releases are planned but are not necessarily done regularly.
We have several products including: 1 iOS app in the App Store, 1 Android app in the Play store, 1 SDK per platform, and 2 more iOS apps that are distributed through enterprise channels. We have a small team that has struggled to maintain consistent quality for all these products. We also lack logging, analytics, or alerting that would help us discover app problems in our apps before our customers do.
Setup CI/CD for the multitude of apps that we develop. Includes integrating into github for pull requests and establishing testing that ensures some feature stability.
Integrate new features into our apps/SDK that supports the business. This can include things like DoorDash experiences for delivering food to the customers. Developing curbside pickup for our end users. This must be done while ensuring that our SDK api doesn't break for existing SDK users and that we maintain a rough drop-in replacement for upgrading our SDK.
Fix various bugs associated with our shopping experience. These could include: - asynchronous communication bugs associated with websockets - showing coupons that should be shown and hiding coupons that shouldn't be shown - decreasing excessive network traffic for network sensitive applications
Working at Skip
We value focused, intentional thinking. We are a tight group of team members that lead each other by examples from each department of high standards in our product and client relationships. Besides the business side of things, we all enjoy a good laugh and have fun outside of work with our hobbies, friends, and families. Being based in Salt Lake City, UT we have a natural inclination towards the outdoors and being active, but we still enjoy a good game of Rocket League - it's less competitive now that we're working from home and not in an office.
As part of our commitment to an inclusive workplace, we are happy to offer prospective engineers the chance to connect with our engineering employees who come from underrepresented backgrounds. It’s a way to get a better sense of our team and what it might be like to work with us.
If you’re interested in connecting with our team, be sure to bring this up during one of our introductory calls!

Generous Vacation
We have 2 fully planned & scheduled for weeks that the company shuts down to maintenance / urgent support only mode. This is the week of 4th of July (we call it Skip Independence Week) and the week of Christmas (we call it Winter Break). Beyond those 2 weeks, we give all the federal holidays and hope that you take planned vacations responsibly and as work permits. This generally equates to around 20 holidays (9 Federal, 11 Company) and 10 days of PTO per year.

Pet Friendly
Now that we all work remotely it's less of a perk, but we regularly had our dogs in the office which makes for a relaxed environment and helps you keep your pup happier during the work week.
-
Flexible Hours
We used to have a scheduled WFH day every Wednesday, but engineers could flex that day to meet the needs of their assigned work. Since the pandemic, we are all working remote and loving it. Our schedule still hovers around 9am - 5pm, but you are welcome to start a little earlier or end a little later depending on your needs that day. We just try to keep our direct team members aware of any large shifts in hours we're available.
-
Health Insurance
We provide full medical and dental coverage at no cost to the employee. If you have dependents you would like to add to your health plans, the company will cover 50% of their premiums for you. Our coverage is excellent and we encourage you to use it proactively. Vision insurance is also available for a couple bucks a month.
