Spring Labs is the company building out the Spring Protocol, a network designed to allow network participants, such as financial institutions, to share information about data, such as credit and identity data, without needing to share the underlying data itself. Initial use cases include ID verification, fraud mitigation, and access to credit reporting data - though the protocol and network have potentially far reaching implications and applicability. Our objective is to lower overall data costs while simultaneously allowing institutions to retain full control over their data, facilitating more transparent and secure sharing than is currently possible today.

Engineering team and processes

We currently have a combined Engineering and Research Development team, consisting of a Sr. Director of Engineering, one Architect, three Senior Backend / Full-Stack Engineers, one Junior Engineer, and two Senior Ph.D. Researchers.

Everyone runs a two week scrum sprint, using JIRA to track our tickets and Confluence for documentation. Python is our development language of choice.

For our technology stack, we’re running microservices that will authenticate the clients that are in the permissions network. All of them running a flavor of Postgres for the data storage.

Technical Challenges

We are developing a decentralized system to anonymously share information between participants in a given ecosystem, called the Spring Protocol. The Spring Protocol includes elements of blockchain, cryptography, fin-tech, and data security/privacy.

The blockchain element includes deploying nodes on each of the participant's network, which brings strong privacy and security challenges. Furthermore, the network must be performant compared to “traditional” solutions in terms of velocity, capacity, and utility.

Projects you might work on

Build a protocol that allows information about data to be shared, without revealing the underlying data itself. The sharing mechanisms of the platform should be triple-blind, secure and run on top of Ethereum, utilizing smart contracts in order to build up guarantees on the network when exchanging information.
Build use cases within the protocol for each ecosystem of potential industries that we may work with. Adapt the platform to the specs that Product will work with external partners to define. Continuously improve these designs as Research generates improved cryptographic primitives.
Build and leverage JSON APIs on the platform in order to create a client software that enables a loan registry, a credit reporting platform, and other potential products as the market for our product evolves.
