Exciting engineering opportunities: Starcity is at the forefront of a new category of co-living companies. We're tackling the problem of building a new technology stack for property management, real estate asset management and construction as a company that stands to benefit and use its own products. Building a Sustainable Future - Sustainability is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Starcity’s value engineering takes into consideration both the initial and life-cycle costs of a building. Our approach deals with all the surrounding resources such as water, energy, and materials from their beginning as raw materials till their salvage cycle.
We work using agile methodology with two-week sprints, stand-ups, and encourage pair-programming sessions. Code reviews are performed by engineering management and other individual contributors on the team. Each Friday we conduct an engineering
Friday Forum where we give lessons, discuss policy changes and anything else on our minds before heading off to lunch.
We strive to minimize meetings on engineers' schedules by having engineering management and product management receive and triage inbound requests for features/bug fixes. Work-from-home days are allowed and encouraged whenever you need some quiet focus time.
Our business is complicated and has many moving pieces. We build a large number of branching workflows that involve: - Handling large dollar figure payments from customers - Moving money into and between many different bank accounts - Time-dependent workflows that span 30 days and more, soon across multiple time zones - Complicated workflows that need to be adaptable to many external factors - Automation of processes that vary in subtle ways due to differences in local laws
You'd get to work on a variety of rich, single-page web applications that interface with our GraphQL server to drive customer engagement, present real-time information aggregated from many sources to our financial partners, and enable our staff to drive our operational-heavy business.
Design a custom access-control system that allows granular control of specific functionalities within our systems to specific people and groups of people, segmented by building and region.
Develop a notification system for Slack, SMS and email that allows direct engagement with our members in a variety of common use-cases, e.g. interactive Slack messages to pay rent.
Lead the creation of an IoT-based system for monitoring many physical spaces in real-time. This would range from sensor selection/creation to data ingestion, metric visualization and alerting.
We've created and actively maintain a standalone payments API specifically tailored to property management companies.
