Role Description

Stem enables independent artists to turn their passion into a business. Our tools empower individuals to distribute their creations, collect royalties from consumer platforms, and provide tools to manage, analyze, and promote their creative catalog.

The successful candidate will enhance the digital encoding of contract terms, royalty conditions, and payment regimens needed to aggregate and distribute the revenue generated from streaming and downloaded music. Responsibilities include representing the data efficiently, owning the data flows from financial reporting to payments reconciliation, managing accredited historical accounting data, and providing data access to software tools used to satisfy the analytic, promotional, and legal requirements of artists’ businesses.

This role is full-time and based in Los Angeles, CA at our West Hollywood office.

What you’ll do:

Drive the Next Generation design of our royalties, expenses, and payments system
Collect and allocate reported payments data among joint royalty shareholders
Refine the contracts and expenses system for recoupment of advances
Collaborate with our existing royalty team satisfy all legal and regulatory standards
Design and build tools for analyzing, reporting, and visualizing earnings data
Integrate with external payments and accounting systems
Produce schema design, information architecture, and data presentation features
Analyze, architect, design, participate in user interviews, prototype and code on a collaborative, globally distributed team of engineers and designers
Provide unit test, quality control, CI/CD for your system responsibilities
Mentor other engineers

Our Ideal Candidate has:

An understanding of contracts and royalties (music industry a plus)
A background in Information Architecture and/or Schema Design
Familiarity with software systems for bookkeeping, accounting, and ledgers
Experience coding in Python and Javascript
A connection with artists, writers, makers, or other imaginative creators
Interests, training, or hobbies outside of CS
A precise attention to detail
Diverse views and experience, as well as a tendency to include others
An empathetic attitude
An instinct to encourage collaboration and team-building
Experience mentoring others and a desire to have mentors
