Role Description

At Stockwell, we are using machine learning and computer vision to build the retail platform of the future. In our world, brick and mortar stores look much different - we place stores right where our customers live, work and play so we can curate the products in our stores with the help of our customers. This is all possible because we design, build and operate automated stores that put the customer first with a seamless, frictionless checkout experience.

We’re looking for a hungry full-stack or backend engineer to join our team and help us build out our best-in-class logistics tooling. Our ideal candidate is someone with fullstack and frontend experience and an interest in leveraging a knack for architecture to build out and own new logistics tools and optimizations.

Role responsibilities - one or more of the following:

  • Logistics App: Our goal is to democratize physical distribution, so that mom and pop store owners, boutique brands, and large retailers can reach customers in ways they’ve never been able to before. Own and help define the product and development roadmap to manage and optimize our complex supply chain, and build out the customer-facing interfaces that will allow us to partner with a unique set of Stockwell operators.

  • Retail Experimentation: To bring the relevant slice of retail to customers, we need to know what products they want. Help build and define a retail experimentation framework that brings the efficacy and data-orientation of e-commerce to the real world, while tying into the financial realities of running a physical retail business.

Your Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of full-stack software development experience.
  • Experience with React/Redux or similar JS frameworks.
  • Experience with Python as a backend is a plus.
  • 2+ years of database experience with mySQL, sql-lite or Postgres.
  • A knack for architecture: You should have opinions on simple and elegant design of software systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as you will need to interface with functional leads in our operations, retail, and sales organizations.
  • Incredibly fast learner, hungry for growth and/or ready to lead.
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or a related field).

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with Django and the Django REST Framework.
  • Experience with GraphQL.
  • Experience with the Google Cloud Platform.
  • An interest in Advertising/Retail/CPG.
  • An interest in AI and Machine Learning.

About Stockwell AI

At Stockwell we're building the future of brick and mortar retail by shrinking the store and bringing it to where people already are - where they live, play, and work. Our cabinet-style microstores use computer vision to automatically audit your transaction and build you your receipt. Our team of engineers, logistics and retail experts are working to redefine the economics of last-mile distribution, combining the convenience and personalization of e-commerce retail with the immediacy, tangibility, and serendipity of a physical storefront.

Company Culture

We've done the naive thing of doing everything ourselves — we're fully vertically integrated. This means that our company culture is by nature extremely collaborative and cross functional. It's not uncommon for engineers to take on more product ownership and work with business partners across Retail (what we fill the stores with), Ops (how we get the goods there), Sales (how we place the stores), Marketing (how we communicate to new customers), and Hardware (the stores themselves).

We value authenticity, thoughtfulness, and transparency. We balance execution and strategy. We encourage a growth mindset.
