Founded in 2007, sweetgreen passionately believes that real food should be convenient and accessible to everyone. Every day, across its 100 restaurants, over 4,000 team members make food from scratch, using fresh ingredients and produce delivered that morning. sweetgreen’s strong food ethos and investment in local communities have enabled them to grow into a national brand with a mission to build healthier communities by connecting people to real food.
Over the next few years, we are expanding our restaurant + market footprint, as well as our digital penetration – to meet customers where they are. Aside from improving our customers’ and communities’ relationship with food, we are also changing the way they interact with the restaurants.
Online + app ordering revenue is increasing at a rate of ~50% year over year. Additionally, 44% of in-store payments were processed through the sweetgreen app in 2018. Engineering at Sweetgreen
Our Engineering teams are cross-functional domain teams sufficient deliver features. Typically includes dedicated QA and Product, Design, or Data as appropriate.
DRY, SOLID + YAGNI code design principles Continuous Integration and Deployment AGILE Methodologies (XP, SCRUM, Kanban, TDD, etc.)
We’re technology agnostic, but we have a propensity to leverage lean tools that are best suited to get the job done. Our most popular choices are Node and Ruby, and are often deployed to either a severless or container orchestrated platform. Our frontend clients are written in Ember and React. We try not to over index on the latest tech and to instead focus on the tools that allow for the greatest development experience, quality of work, and productivity.
Our engineering corps is focused on building a food platform.
The three pillars we’re focusing on: (1) Ordering application on Mobile and Web (2) Robotics and Automation within the kitchen (3) Tracking Ingredients: from seed in the soil to food in the bowl via blockchain
Ordering app on Mobile and Web so that guests can get their food anywhere they need. Being able to connect with sg food via omni-channel model: Online Ordering for Takeout (OLO), Outpost (Lunchtime Delivery to Corporate Offices), Pay in store via mobile app (iOS and Android).
Delivery has just gone live on the native sweetgreen mobile app with more to come.
There's an interesting place to play between user bio data, health systems (e.g. MyFitnessPal, Apple Health, etc) and suggestions on mobile devices as users enter more of their data onto mobile platforms...
