  • SwiftSku's CEO, Mit Patel, grew up managing the inventory, pricebook, and reporting of his family’s convenience stores, and, when vendors would come by, he’d bridge the language barrier as a translator. More than 85% of independent convenience stores are owned by Indian families like Mit’s. SwiftSku was born through Mit’s first hand experience of the pain these small business owners have managing their entire business by pen and paper.

  • Today, SwiftSku provides owners pricebook management, fuel pump controls, and brand to consumer loyalty programs. We are a small startup of 6 people and we are building the infrastructure these small businesses desperately need.

    Tens of thousands of convenience store owners are finding that their priceless point of sale data is being deleted and are forced to rely on their gut for important business decisions.

Engineering team and processes

Our engineering team ships software every 2 weeks and we have standups twice a week. All members of the engineering team are involved in making design decisions and help outline the important tasks for each sprint. We use TDD as our guiding principle for our development process. The customer support team is always relaying customer feedback on new feature requests and bugs to the engineering team. We pride ourselves on having short bug life cycles.

Technical Challenges

At SwiftSku, we are building the infrastructure to tap into real time point of sale data at tens of thousands of convenience stores across the United States. One of the biggest challenges that we face is cleaning the data that we are collecting. All of the data is pulled in XML and doesn’t follow any particular schema. We have written several algorithms to standardize the data however it is still a work in progress.

Projects you might work on
  • The parsing algorithm that will standardize transaction data across multiple Point of Sale platforms and ensure that all the relevant pieces of data are extracted so that the small business owners that are relying on the data can make sound business decisions from it. The algorithm will be one of the core pieces that enable the owners to also get back thousands of dollars worth of rebates that they previously weren’t able to tap into.

  • The analytics and reporting functionality of our mobile application that would show owners key metrics of their business with easy to understand data visuals. This analytics and reporting module will be used by convenience store owners all over the United States to get a better understanding of their business and how they compare with other businesses. It would also enable them to compete with the goliaths of the industry for the first time because they would have the ability to make data driven decisions instead of relying on the 5 subject notebooks they use now.

  • Work on building an inventory management platform that connects hundreds of distributors and thousands of convenience store inventory levels in real time.
