The.com is quietly building a new category in the website making space 🤫

It’s a website builder, yes, but that's just how you'll explain it to your relatives at the next thanksgiving. What we're actually building is so much more than that — it’s a movement that will take the collective us to Web 4.0. It's a huge claim. But that's what everyone here at The.com is soo so excited about. When you can back up big claims, things get really exciting.

Of the 550K+ websites built every day on the internet, most are either on WordPress or handwritten. Let that sink in. Think about where the internet would be today if millions more people could wield the web like an engineer. Imagine the way non-designers could innovate if they had a platform that could superpower their ideas. This is The.com. It’s a new kind of environment where website makers share in the creation of powerful sites that transform the internet.

We’re a small team with big contributors. We are looking for a Sofware Engineer (E3) to help build some of the incredible features on the roadmap and contribute to our culture. Oh, and we’re very excited to have just closed a round of funding from some leading funds and angels in the bay area.

Engineering at The.com

Engineering team and processes

Our engineering team operates unilaterally. We do daily standup meetings to discuss each devs goals for that day and achievements from the day before. During standup, we offer open Q & A for the founders and sometimes demos where each engineer can show off the work they've completed. Engineers typically work with a designer and any other interested parties to spec a feature, then work on the feature individually. We use Pull Requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews. All engineers review other PRs. We push to production on Mondays and do all testing on Friday.

Technical Challenges

The.com has many interesting technical challenges. We are a serverless platform deploying static sites that can be hydrated to allow for dynamic content. The platform is also using advanced state management & complex rendering to preview sites for users in real time behind the editor. We also have many interesting challenges around browser-side rendering and dns routing.

Projects you might work on
  • Work on server-side rendering to create a seamless async between The.com sheets and Zapier

  • Directing the engineering team on business objectives brought in by real customer feedback.

  • Potentially building out the iOS app from scratch
