Founded in 2013, Thistle is an early stage food-tech startup empowering our customers to get and stay healthy. We deliver delicious, organic, healthy, plant-forward meals, cold-pressed juices and snacks to customers in California who want to put their nutrition on auto-pilot.
We don’t want to be just another food delivery startup or meal-kit company. Our focus is on the health and happiness of our customers, and we are revolutionizing how fresh, nutritious, high-quality food is purchased, manufactured, and delivered at scale. Thistle is headquartered in San Francisco and we are backed by some amazing investors in the Bay Area and beyond.
We've self-funded our way to profitability but are in the early stages of a fundraise to get a broader reach.
We have a lean engineering team today so everything you do, minute-by-minute, impacts the company's success. This small team environment means everyone works on a little of everything and you'll never be pigeonholed into one technology or area of the codebase. Engineers have a lot of say into where the product is going and plenty of opportunities to learn new technologies.
Free Thistle food, snacks and juice for you and your family & friends! :D
Our eng team operates on two week cycles. Each cycle begins with a meeting to discuss time estimates for features. Engineers typically work with a designer and any other interested parties (PMs, Ops Managers, etc.) to spec a feature, then work on the feature individually. We use Pull Requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews. All engineers are also empowered to push code to production, which we do multiple times a day. Culturally, we have a flat organization and very flexible team environment. Our current eng team includes 4 people in SF and 2 people who work remotely for us.
Some interesting technical challenges we're dealing with include integrating our vertical operations teams to reduce waste and inefficiency with an attractive & intuitive as possible customer interface, both via a web and react native app. We're also refactoring parts of the code base that are not scalable or sufficiently future-proof as we grow.
You would help architect and iterate on complex technical systems that power nearly all aspects of the business to help us grow and scale, such as partnering with cross-functional teams to design and implement full-stack solutions to delivery and logistics challenges.
We've built a diverse, inclusive team of developers who are resourceful, bonded by a love of our product, enjoy collaborating cross-functionally and who take the initiative to get things done. We wear many hats at Thistle — our engineers are collaborating with culinary, logistics, design and product teams on a daily basis. It's also a challenging, fun & flexible environment — we have weekly team bonding events and you get to choose the projects that you're passionate about working on, all while solving real world problems.
Thistle has a flexible vacation policy.
