Engineering at Thryve

Engineering team and processes

Our engineering team works on 1 week sprints. We have a product owner that runs sprint planning on Mondays and Retrospectives on Fridays. Tasks are broken down to an atomic level to provide estimates for the week. Highly collaborative environment where our 4 person engineering team works side by side on projects.

Technical Challenges

Natural Language Processing / Machine Learning on scientific literature to pull in metadata and human readable text to feed via API into our consumer application

Bioinformatics via Kraken and HitDB to help with analysis of raw 16s rRNA samples

React Native and Python for our consumer web/mobile app.

Projects you might work on

Create food ingredient database using scraps from websites, manually curated list, and NLP/ML generated research. Develop an API based tool that speaks with the web front-end that displays all the customer's best fit foods based on their DNA sample.
Build our React Native mobile app (iOS and Android) that provides the core app functions (food recs, probiotic recs, health report) with gamification logic overlaid to encourage users to engage with them app and earn rewards.
Work with bioinformatician and implement R and scripts to tap into public databases (NIH, HMP) to extract RNA and DNA nucleotide snippets for our bioinformatics analysis.
