Trace Genomics
We are a platform that uses advanced genetic and machine learning technology to understand and unlock the power of living soil for millions of farmers.
Why join us?
Trace is first-to-market in the soil microbiome space, we are VC-backed with $20M in funding, and currently has some of the most unique data in AgTech Market ($16.9B in 2018). Our team has grown 2x in the past year and we anticipate a strong Series B round later this year.
Our team is made of top talents in the fields of data science, software engineering, genetics, agronomy, molecular biology, and product development. Previously, team members have worked at Dropbox and Palantir to name a few, and over 25% of our team has a PhD.
We take a collaborative and team-science based approach to problem solving and product development, and value diverse and unique thinking and curiosity.
We value our team members: we provide monthly commuter benefits, stocked snacks and drinks, daily lunches from Eat Club, catered events and company get-togethers, full healthcare (medical, dental, vision), a new computer and noise-canceling headphones of your choice, generous work-from-home and PTO policies, competitive salary, annual bonuses, and meaningful equity.
Engineering at Trace Genomics
Our engineering team operates on two week sprints. Each sprint begins with a meeting to discuss feature prioritization and time estimates, includes weekly stand-up meetings, and ends with a team retrospective. For any given project, engineers work closely in a small team with a product manager, product designer, and additional stakeholders (data scientists, bioinformaticians). We use Pull Requests on GitHub to conduct code reviews and ZenHub to manage ticketing and intra-team communications. All engineers are empowered to push code to production. We are constantly learning and iterating on our product development processes.
We're developing a B2C platform that integrates with multiple data science and bioinformatics data pipelines that process thousands of events per second.
High-level You would get to work on developing database schemas and integrations between front-end, back-end, and external data silos for our B2C platform.
Project 1: Backend You would build a backend service to help collect and deliver public climate and soil datasets to predictive models. The project would include collecting requirements from internal stakeholders, designing an architecture, building the service, implementing API documentation, and building and maintaining the service. The stack is Flask and AWS.
Project 2: Front end You would work with a product manager and designer to build an interactive dashboard for customers to see the results of their soil sampling data to enable them to make informed planting and harvesting decisions. You would take ownership of the engineering requirements for the project, and coordinate efforts among other engineers. The stack is react/redux.
Project 3: Infrastructure You would improve the continuous integration pipeline for deployment of our customer facing web application by implementing multistage builds, improving test suites, and monitoring integration of services. The stack is Docker and AWS.
