Why join us?
We're a well-funded 💰 high-visibility 📰 startup working on one of the most complex and urgent problems facing the internet today: restoring trust in digital photos and videos in the face of widespread deception and misinformation, whether through manual manipulation or AI synthesis (a.k.a. deepfakes).
We have a large and rapidly growing customer base that is set to explode in 2022 because of an exciting new product that we're working on now (you can come to help us build it!)! 📈
We have a team of experts who have broken new ground on secure camera technology, earning Truepic a TIME Magazine
Best Inventions of 2020award 🥇, and a voting seat alongside the likes of Twitter, Microsoft, Intel, Arm, Adobe, and the BBC in the industry body creating open standards for this technology.
We're still in early stages (just closing Series B)...catch the rocket before it takes off! 🚀
Engineering at Truepic
Our engineers work in one of two groups: product engineering and R&D.
While the R&D group focuses on building and evolving Truepic's core technology, product engineering works on productizing this technology to make it available to Truepic's growing customer base.
The R&D group explores a wide solution space to narrow down to a set of architectures or algorithms that could be commercially viable. This means that while projects in R&D have definitive goals, they do not follow a fixed cycle given their exploratory nature.
The product engineering group follows the Basecamp process. Product enhancements are deliberated on using a betting process, and engineers own the delivery of the agreed-upon features within the allotted cycle time, giving them maximum ownership.
Our technology sits at the intersection of advanced image processing and security, two worlds that normally do not intersect. This creates a myriad of challenges that are genuinely interesting to tackle.
The objective of our technology is to capture photos and videos that faithfully represent the scene that was in front of the camera, and defend against attacks that seek to manipulate the images (and their metadata) before, during, or after the capture.
We aim to have this technology scale to the 1 trillion+ images that are captured every year, making this a truly internet-scale problem (with the associated challenges that come with that massive scale).
Truepic Vision - our flagship product, allows our customers to request trustworthy photos and videos from anyone with a smartphone, anywhere in the world.
Our upcoming SDK - enabling any camera-enabled application (including Tier 1 social media, banking, and e-commerce apps) on iOS or Android to use Truepic's Controlled Capture secure camera technology to capture trustworthy photos and videos.
Truepic Foresight - a fortified, hardware-secured version of our Controlled Capture technology that makes it a native capability in smartphones, baked into the native camera application. Winner of TIME Magazine's
Best Inventions of 2020.
Working at Truepic
As part of our commitment to an inclusive workplace, we are happy to offer prospective engineers the chance to connect with our engineering employees who come from underrepresented backgrounds. It’s a way to get a better sense of our team and what it might be like to work with us.
If you’re interested in connecting with our team, be sure to bring this up during one of our introductory calls!
Truepic has an unlimited vacation policy! Take all the time you need to be with your loved ones and rejuvenate!
Serves underrepresented populations
Truepic runs an annual grant program that gives charities and NGOs serving underrepresented populations across the globe access to our technology. Examples include the Global Fund for Widows, Opportunity Fund, Near East Foundation, and many more.
Social impact driven
Truepic's technology has been recognized in articles by the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, the New York Times, the New Yorker, Fast Company, and many more as an essential countermeasure against the rise in disinformation on the web, and a potent preemptive defense against deepfakes.
Truepic is unique in that even as a Series A startup, we created a Strategic Initiatives team (headed by a former US diplomat to the UN) that deploys our technology for social impact use cases all over the world, supporting international NGOs and charities in doing their work more effectively using Truepic technology.
Work from Home
Truepic has always been a remote company, even before the COVID-19 pandemic. We do have an office in beautiful La Jolla, CA by the Pacific Ocean, where local employees have the option to work from.
