Engineering at Untapped

Engineering team and processes

Our product team is split into two teams, one focused on recruiter products (B2B), and one focused on candidate products (B2C). Each team has dedicated design, product, marketing, content, and engineering resources. Projects within the team have DRIs (directly responsible individuals) from each function, who sync at defined checkpoints, from ideation through launch. Engineers are included from the product ideation process, and have the opportunity to be fully engaged in product planning if interested!

We use Github, and require code reviews for all PRs. Each engineer is enabled to deploy code to production, which is typically done a few times per day.

Technical Challenges

Our product is scaling rapidly in features and usage, and our engineering team is key in tackling the resulting challenges head-on.

Our Recruiter product includes powerful data visualization tools, candidate pipeline search functionality, and bulk data operations. These features require us to build performant frontend architecture and to thoughtfully design backend systems to sync and synthesize large datasets.

Our Candidate product includes a forum for candidates and recruiters, job applications, virtual event sign-ups, and a messaging platform for interacting with other candidates and recruiters. These surface areas must be performant, mobile-friendly, and built for growth as we scale towards a million users. In 2021, we expect to begin growth experimentation on our candidate platform.

At Canvas, we value engineering craft and quality, and encourage engineers to keep up with industry trends, and seek out technologies to modernize and improve our product. For example, we are currently working on migrating our Vue app to Vue 3.0 and Typescript, two bottom-up projects proposed to improve developer happiness, product stability, & performance.

    We offer a company 401k contribution of 3% of salary, regardless of how much you contribute.

  • Flexible Hours

    We care about productivity, not hours! Generally, engineering hours are flexible and meeting time is limited. When scheduling meetings, we try to be accomodating of folks located on the East Coast.

    Our office is located in Downtown SF, and we have plans to open a small LA office once it's safe to do so.

    Normally, we offer free lunch in our office. Due to our remote work situation, we've substituted this benefit with a weekly food stipend for all employees.
