As a senior software engineer, you'll enjoy significant autonomy while making a meaningful impact with creative and innovative technical solutions, writing algorithms, and crafting elegant user interfaces. You will be solving challenges with interesting engineering constraints and building complex features quickly to meet the growing demands of our unique role in the fintech ecosystem. We’re looking for curious and humble team members driven by a desire to move quickly and build robust systems that improve people’s lives. The teams we're currently hiring for are as follows:

Personal Loans: Owns the core borrower application process and experience for personal loans, and helps drive improvements to that business line.

Growth: Responsible for discovering new growth levers and optimizing previously identified triggers, increasing our market footprint, improving the accuracy and speed of our experimentation, and reducing the cost of acquiring new borrowers. 100% remote positions are available on this team.

Borrower: Owns the entirety of the user experience post loan origination. The team directly interacts with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, ranging from the borrowers to credit agencies to banks to compliance teams. You will have the opportunity to work on complex technical backend projects or to work closely with Product Managers to enable features to help borrowers improve their financial situation.

Ops Efficiency: Upstart has experienced tremendous growth over the past two years, and now processes billions of dollars in loans every quarter. To support that growth, we have hundreds of credit analysts who use proprietary tools and models to manually review the accuracy of borrower loan applications. These tools and processes have not been built to handle our scale and represent a tremendous opportunity to improve the borrower experience and our bottom line. We’re building a team that will own these tools, streamline our operational processes, and make significant improvements to the experience in order to set us up for our next phase of growth.

How you'll make an impact:

Work within all areas of the platform from our web interfaces and 3rd party API integrations to backend business logic Move quickly to drive both existing and greenfield projects forward, while always keeping our end users in mind Make architectural contributions and decisions to improve the reliability of our software and maintainability of our code base Help us build our engineering team and make Upstart a genuinely awesome place to work

What we're looking for:

Experience working with full stack web applications for at least 7 years professionally Intimate familiarity with multiple web and JavaScript/JS frameworks (we use Ruby on Rails and React, but are open to all backgrounds) Solid understanding of SQL databases and domain modeling Jazzed when presented with a challenging problem to solve Desire to succeed as part of a team Happiest when you’re able to pivot between heads down solo work and collaborative sessions with your teammates
