Role Description

VedaPointe and its partners are highly reliant on our presence in the cloud. We are entrusted to maintain and secure data, expose it through robust data pipelines, and create brilliant user experiences to consume all of this. We seek a cloud engineer who can collaborate with our solution architects on the definition of technical architecture, the translation of defined cloud architecture into implementation requirements, and the creation and maintenance of that cloud infrastructure following industry best practices.

Responsibilities Deployment, maintenance, and optimization of cloud infrastructure deployed to support our application development and solution engineering teams. Empathize with our partners and our solution engineering teams to understand that the architectures we create are the backbone of the healthcare and life sciences technologies we build. We’re all in it together. Clearly demonstrate and apply knowledge of both the most stalwart of cloud capabilities (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability) as well as those on the forefront of innovation (AI/ML, containerization). We really wish “cloud” was singular. But alas, we must keep and maintain awareness of what cloud solutions are on the horizon. Act as a Subject Matter Expert for VedaPointe and its partners’ cloud end-to-end architectures, including partners such as AWS, GCP, and Azure. Evolve our playbook. Develop and maintain a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns that support the standards invoked by our solution engineering teams.
Realize we’re one big team. It’s vital to be able to deliver research and evidence to support design decisions and contribute it to the greater decision-making process.
Stay current with new technology options and vendor products, evaluating which ones would be a good fit for our projects. Recommend optimal design patterns and solutions for security, high availability, and disaster recovery for applications – and the streaming and scale of near-infinite amounts of data. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience. 3+ years implementing and maintaining cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure; experience in owning the design of cloud architectures is a plus. Understanding of DevOps tool chains, automated testing frameworks, and continuous delivery processes. Understanding of developing and deploying solutions leveraging technologies that support infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.). Understanding of (and experience implementing) cloud architectures based on the five pillars of the AWS Well-Architected framework: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization. Strong understanding of security is a must. Demonstrated expertise in constructing highly scalable containerized environments leveraging technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or similar. Demonstrated background in developing robust documentation alongside infrastructure deployments. Experience with documentation-as-code is a plus. Experience working in a healthcare and/or life sciences discipline is preferred. Familiarity with deploying infrastructure for microservices architectures is preferred.
