Our lead hire will really drive the future structure of the team. Currently, most of the team is onshore/offshore outsourced but we plan to bring 4 people in house in the next 3-6 months and continue to build internally from there. What the mix of in house vs. contract is and what the structure internally looks like will be something that our full stack lead can drive.
How to build a marketplace for the future of the fine wine industry - what to do first, how to ensure its scaleable and will be adopted by people who may not be incredibly tech savvy is one exciting challenge we are constantly thinking about. Another is how to modernize our cellar management software, which was build over a decade ago. It is used by many of the biggest wine collectors in the world and has an immense amount of functionality and data, but it is legacy and needs to be modernized to provide the usability and experience that the rest of our platform offers.
We just created a real-time integration between a B2B marketplace and our platform, so that we can offer the wines on the B2B exchange (which is overseas) to end consumers in the US dynamically. This is the first time this has ever been done and it has a huge impact in the amount of wine we have available to sell every day and also provides customers access to wines that were not previously available in the United States.
We are building a new type of context-rich experience that mixes content and commerce in ways that have never been done before. Think live chats with winegrowers across the globe, direct mailing lists with producers that have never interacted with the end consumer before, rich video, and access to highly collectible wines, all from one place!
We want to plug in digital sources of inventory from around the world. This could be exchanges/markets overseas, warehouses domestically and abroad, etc. How do we take inventory of fantastic wine that is located globally and make it available for sale on our platform?
We are very passionate about our product and our clients! We're scrappy in that we are still small and everyone chips in to do what is needed, but we are entering a new phase of growth and have just implemented a new technology platform that will help us step on the gas and scale. We are currently spending time making sure we fix all problems that we don't want to scale before we go even more aggressively into growth mode.
We're located right near the Embarcadero, tucked next to the Green st. cliff. The office is new and modern and has an attached wine lounge that is gorgeous.
