Role Description

Virgo is looking for a senior full-stack software engineer to come in and lead development of new features for our cloud video capture system for GI endoscopy. Successful candidates will have experience in web development, databases, cloud services, infrastructure/architecture design, and the ability to bring features from the idea stage to production. Experience with video encoding/streaming, computer vision, and machine learning is a big plus, as we're quickly building a number of AI features into our product.

Our server-side stack is mostly written in Go, while our web portal is a Django backend with a Javascript front end. Our front end was initially designed to be compatible with older browsers often found in medical offices (hence vanilla Javascript). However, we are interested in moving to a modern JS framework. We use GCP for our cloud services.

Possible features you will work on include: implementing new machine learning analysis tools into our web portal, launching an assessment form tool, developing a web interface to enable voice capture from our devices, and improving our cloud video editing tools. Bonus points if you're interested in getting your hands dirty with our video capture devices, which currently use a Raspberry Pi and h264 encoder to capture and stream video to the cloud.

About Virgo Surgical Video Solutions, Inc.

Virgo is developing a variety of AI tools for endoscopic medical procedures like colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, and bronchoscopy — check out this feature from Google as an example https://coral.withgoogle.com/news/virgo-svs. Historically, the videos from these procedures weren't saved. Our first product is an automated cloud video capture solution which enables doctors to seamlessly record their procedure videos for research, training, and quality improvement applications.

Since launching in May 2018, we've captured over 55,000 procedure videos — the largest data set of its kind — from leading institutions like Northwestern, University of Virginia, and Mayo Clinic. We're now utilizing that data to develop more sophisticated AI-based video analytics.

Company Culture

We're a hard working bunch, yet flexible when needed to respect the importance of personal time. We're very open about our successes and the challenges facing the company, highlighted by a bi-weekly strategy meeting. More than anything, we really care about improving healthcare. All new employees go through an 8 week Colon Class to learn about anatomy, pathology, procedures, and health technology.
