Vorstella
Vorstella is an AI platform that automatically manages large scale distributed systems like Cassandra, Hadoop, Spark and Kafka for large companies. Founded by ex-DataStax engineers, we’ve designed some of the largest distributed system deployments in the world and we wanted to make this technology accessible to everyone. You shouldn’t need 3 years of experience to feel comfortable running a new system at scale. We take the guesswork out of using new technology and let you focus on building your applications.

Why join us?
We've already got deployments in production at huge accounts, and we're landing 6 figure deals.
Our team was founded by industry experts in large-scale distributed systems. We've built things for Apple, Netflix, Walmart, GE, JPMC, etc...
We're funded by well known VC: Cowboy, Core, Crunchfund/Tuesday.
Engineering at Vorstella
We're agile on one week sprints at the moment. The entire team is remote, mostly based in AZ, but we've got a couple in CA and one in TX. Everyone rolls up into the eng manager, who was promoted internally from the operations team.
It's a lot of data, it's a couple thousand data points per minute per server/node under management. How do we ingest this data, discover interesting indicators of common problems, or even unknown problems and then present this information to the end user in a way that makes sense and is actionable. Our goal is to take your average operations engineer and give them god-level cheats when operating technology X.
We've got a series of collectors that plug into Elasticsearch, Kafka, Cassandra, Kubernetes that collect information and stream it back to our NOC. These need to be maintained and enhanced. Not everything is available via the normal monitoring APIs so we've got to sometimes dig deep into these technologies to expose the metrics we need.
We've got a data pipeline that uses Kafka, Google Pub/Sub and BigQuery to clean and format data making it available to the machine learning models.
The models and rules which run the whole thing. These can be database tuning models, best practices enforcement, sanity checks, anomaly detection, root cause analysis, workload classification, cost optimization etc... Think about everything you'd ever want to do in a data center but didn't quite have enough time or data to validate.
Our own internal operations. We're pushing the edge of what's possible on a couple different fronts. We're heavy users of Spinnaker, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Docker. We're active contributors to each of these projects and meet regularly with their product teams to drive the roadmap.
Working at Vorstella
We believe heavily in the no assholes rule. Other than that' we're pretty mature and chill. All the engineers are in their 30s-40s. We just want to get things done, build cool stuff and provide value to our customers.
