VotingWorks is a non-profit building secure, affordable, open-source voting machines.
The problem: 76% of voters are concerned about hacked elections; most states use voting machines that are 10+ years old; voting machines are proprietary, opaque and 10x the price of similar off-the-shelf hardware; 8 million blind and 32 million illiterate people are expected to vote on
separate and unequalequipment that is antiquated and rarely used.
Work with Ben Adida (@benadida), long time voting security expert, formerly at Clever (VP Eng), Square (Dir. Eng), Mozilla (Dir. Eng).
We're using off the shelf hardware and open source software to build better, more secure machines at a much lower cost.
We're a mission driven flat organization, building a remote culture from the ground up (so for example we take documentation really seriously). We build towards customer-facing milestones (for example we're supporting our first US political elections this summer!) We value simplicity, iteration, explicit prioritization, and questioning assumptions - what we refer to as
trust but verify. We also value sustainability. Securing election tech is a long term, hard problem and we want our team to stick together for the long term as well.
We prioritize meeting in person quarterly either with customers or at offsites.
We value families and many of us are parents. We'll create a generous maternity/paternity leave plan as soon as the need arises.
We will be providing full medical coverage
We're remote so your primary office will be at home.
