Role Description
Whisper exists to improve the human senses. Our initial product is the world’s first noise cancelling hearing aid system: it analyzes your audio in real time, automatically filtering out noise and amplifying the sounds you want to hear. Unlike traditional hearing aids, which simply amplify everything in the room, Whisper amplifies the person you’re listening to based on millions of audio prints it learns over time so it’s able to pick out who you’re listening to, even in the noisiest restaurant.
Based in San Francisco, Whisper is lucky to have the support of great investors including Sequoia Capital, First Round Capital, LUX Ventures, and more. Whisper is an an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce with an inclusive working environment for everyone to do their best work. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
THE ROLE The core of the Whisper hearing product is a set of Internet connected embedded systems, and these devices need to be monitored and managed, and the software build, release, and update cycle needs to be orchestrated. Embedded software infrastructure includes backend software services to interact with the devices themselves, data storage, and the ability to observe how our systems our operating both in the field and in the cloud. This role is suited for someone who wants to work across a wide range of software problems and varied infrastructure elements. Great candidates are comfortable building clean, reliable infrastructure where needed but see value in using available solutions where they will meet our needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES ● Backend software development from initial design through production deployments ● Develop services to collect and store diagnostic data from Internet connected hearing aids ● Design tools to manage remote software updates ● Ensure observability and reliability of our distributed devices and infrastructure. ● Develop tools to support a continuous integration system for embedded software development. ● Contribute as-needed to our entire software stack and work closely with embedded, hardware, and machine learning engineers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ● Proficient with Python and one of C or C++ from prior work in a codebase in these languages ● Experience with common infrastructure and developer tools like Git, Linux, AWS/Google Cloud/Microsoft Azure ● Familiarity with a common python-based web technology stack (e.g. React, Vue.js, Django, Flask, etc.) ● Comfortable with database set up, maintenance, and best practices. ● Excited to work within a broader team of engineers ● Prefers simple, low maintenance solutions that get the core problem solved quickly
BONUS POINTS ● Experience working with machine learning models running on embedded platforms ● Experience data security and privacy, from log management to storing end-user data ● Experience with low-level performance analysis and optimization
About Whisper
