One way we do this is building revolutionary smart hardware for consumers to both monitor and purify their air, so that it’s free from pollutants, allergens, and other harmful components. Our hardware products are designed by the co-founder of IDEO, and are elegant on the outside, while including innovative airflow, sensor, and software technology that we’ve developed in-house. In 2016 we launched Wynd on Kickstarter and generated $600K in pre-orders in under 40 days. In addition, Wynd was named one of Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2016.
We have also launched Air Bubbles, a mobile app for iOS and Android displaying one of the largest collections of public air quality data globally. We are currently building out our data platform, in order to provide further insights into our users’ air quality.

Our engineering team is based around a dedicated group of software developers, who are able to work independently and take responsibility for their independent domains. We have regular check-ins and code reviews, but we also need our developers to be able to work diligently and independently due to the nature of working at a fast-moving startup.
We need to be able to handle large amounts of data both from users, and from official air quality monitoring stations, both within apps and on our backend database. This data not only needs to be structured for easy retrieval and analysis, but the values need to be thoroughly considered in terms of any confounding factors in terms of getting an accurate air quality measurement. Overall, the problem of measuring and processing air quality has a high degree of nuance, as well as a high potential for innovation. Making sure that each step of the data pipeline, from hardware to backend database, coordinates to provide useful data both accurately and efficiently is naturally at the core of many technical challenges at Wynd.
Creating a feature to map a user's air quality throughout the day, while linking it to a chart to be able to view the data on a time axis. Developing this into a feature which shows a user's average air quality in various regularly visited places.
Building a system which processes the air quality data in a user's area to provide useful notifications about their air quality and and air quality history.
Integrating an app and backend service with the data coming from a Wynd IoT device, and integrating it with other relevant IoT related services and technoloigies (Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT, etc)
