Engineering operates three unified team. Each team is comprised of a service delivery manager, frontend engineers, backend engineers, QA engineers, and DevOps engineers. We practice Agile software development and use the Kanban framework to ensure we can focus on delivering business priorities.
Our platform supports hundreds of thousands of learners accessing business-critical content 24x7x365. Our goal is to become the central hub for our customer's content, and to do that we need to implement numerous improvements without disruption. This is akin to replacing a plane's engine while the plane is in flight, ideally without the passengers knowing it. 😱
We are replacing the authentication mechanism to two of our backend services with AWS Cognito, which is our first step in decomposing our monolithic authoring application into a service-oriented architecture which is more scalable, more cost effective to run, and easier to maintain.
We are developing a new, easy-to-use editor that customers can use to author content. We completed our MVP and our customers love it. Now we are adding new features based on their feedback.
We are replacing an old Hibernate connection pool with Amazon's RDS Proxy. This will allow our content delivery application to gracefully handle database crashes so quickly that customers won't even know there was a problem.
