This is an exciting and pivotal year for Yelp. While we’ve been known as the review site for many years, there is a lot more we are doing. At the moment we are much more in “Build Mode” than “Maintenance Mode”.
Consumer Personalization: Yelp is going to look different for every Yelper. In the past years, we have built a very strong, scalable infrastructure to deal with our enormous amount of data. We then built innovative machine learning on top of it to leverage that data. Now it is time to show our users what we can do with it. If you have certain dietary restrictions for instance, we should know that about you and automatically show you this when you open the app or website.
Business Owners Product: This year we’re more than ever being a partner to our business owners. Last year we completely changed our Ads model from contract based to self serve so that business owners now have full control over when they use advertising (click on/click off option), their budget, audience they want to target, what their ad looks like etc. Ads are Yelp’s main source of revenue, so giving full control to business owners was a gutsy but big next step in being a strong partner to them.
Marketplaces: Another area we are growing this year are our services that connect our business owners to our customers directly. These services create win-win situations for both parties, saving our consumer’s time and money and generating extra business for our business owners. Services include: Request A Quote, Yelp Reservations, Yelp Waitlist, Ordering food on Yelp etc.
Our culture is very much focused on collaboration and mentorship. We ensure that everyone gets support and the opportunity to grow their career within Yelp.
