Zero is a financial services company that provides an elegant, mobile-first, modern banking experience. We combine the simplicity of a debit card with the rewards and benefits of a credit card.
We're looking for someone who shares our love of craftsmanship and our passion for improving banking for everyone.

We all care about creating great products. Also helps to have one of the best graphic designers in the world as our head of design, and an amazing engineering team that are working on features that don't exist anywhere to make banking easier for everyone.
Banking is the next great tech frontier. While big banks lag a solid 5+ years behind, fintechs are fighting to fill the void to establish the heavyweight. Unlike our competitors, Zero is focused on credit to win over users who (rightfully) value great rewards and purchase protection.
We have a business model. Credit cards are lucrative because revenue is made on every single purchase.
Functional teams have ownership over a set of services, and have weekly meetings with other stakeholders in the company to plan out work for the following week.
New features are kicked off with a spec review with product and engineering for feedback followed by engineering writing proposals for any major changes. Work is then accounted for in our project management tool and it's off to the races from there.
We like the idea of making great stuff to make our customers more efficient toward their finances, and that sample principle applies to the internal tools here. CI prevents code from breaking functionality being deployed. A great self-contained backend development system means no backend black boxes where nothing is outlined and debugging is difficult. Engineering should be fun, and we do our best to get rid of as many annoyances as we can.
Banking has a lot of problems, and it traditionally has been dealt with hiring a lot of people. Ever wonder why banks have so many office buildings? They are full of people doing manual reviews for a variety of things.
It's 2019, and that's a position we don't want to deal with. The problem is exacerbated given the credit card system is roughly 50 years old, and the ACH system (system for checks and transfers) is old and also very inadequate.
If you're looking at our Android engineer position, you'll have the opportunity to build Zero for Android from scratch.
Our merchant system is responsible for uniquely identifying online and physical merchants, allowing us to build really great things ontop of this data shortly down the road.
Engineering for financial processing - or Bank Eng as we call it - is one of the most critical functional teams at Zero. They are responsible for maintaining 0 downtime, transaction scalability, and architecting solutions to make it easy for other teams at Zero to consume customer financial data.
We value making great things, together. Anyone is in the position to suggest an idea or making a prototype. Great product design and engineering has to start at working together.
