Zippin offers checkout-free technology to retailers so their shoppers can zip in and out without ever needing to scan any product or check out.
We are the only company, other than Amazon, to launch a checkout-free store publicly. And we did that with just 3 engineers.
We are experts in Computer Vision, Infrastructure, and Retail with experience working at Amazon, SRI International and VMware.
Checkout-free shopping increases net profits of grocery stores, convenience stores and super markets by over 400%! This technology has the potential to disrupt the entire retail industry, which is over $6T a year.
We are a small team, and work on two-week development cycles with daily morning sync-ups. We are not religious about technologies; we try to use the right tool for the job, but also try to avoid tool proliferation. We organize our work around ownership - every engineer gets to own one or more business functions for which they are responsible (and accountable) for. A given engineer may be doing machine learning, video compression, data management; all at the same time.
Because we are a real time computer vision startup, we deal in large amounts of data. Lots of frames of video that need to be processed quickly (in under 30ms). We spend a lot of time debating the trade-offs in performance, storage and code complexity.
You would get to work on real time sensor fusion - combining the outputs from multiple sensors (dozens) in real time to make sense of complex scenes.
You would be building our internal tools and dashboards to visualize various types of data. The performance of these tools is measured in the productivity improvements they can deliver to the users.
You would get to work on training our machine learning models that are at the core of our tech.
We value ownership, results, team work, intellect, hard work and open communication. We are fearless, we are hackers, and we are frugal.
