What do we do?

Captain401 makes it easy for people to invest in a safe retirement plan as an employee benefit.

We've built a modern, paperless way for employers to provide a 401k plan to their employees with automated investment advice built in. Businesses of any size can set up a 401k plan entirely online in a matter of minutes, and ongoing administration is completely automated.

Technical challenges

1) Understanding and overcoming behavioral hurdles in users' minds. (Lots of A/B testing and experimentation opportunity!)

2) Clean backend automation code that scales and is super precise. Sync across multiple systems, including legacy retirement planning software.

3) Representing and optimizing a lot of relational data, keeping it sync across client, server and various internal web apps.

Why join us?

1) Hundreds of small businesses use our software to manage their 401(k) plans and we're growing quickly.

2) We have a strong engineering team. One of our engineers worked on the Google Chrome team for six years and other previously founded PaperG, a highly successful ad-tech company that is still going strong.

3) The current law makes it hard for companies to offer 401k plans to their employees, as there are lots of hidden fees and a general opacity in the process which turns employers away. Captain401 makes this process open and transparent. Our mission is to make it easy for more people to do their investing passively over the longer term rather than taking wild bets on the stock market and risk losing their money.
