What do we do?

Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring your photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Over 500 million people around the world have signed up for Dropbox.

Technical challenges

1) Dropbox has a rare combination of being a deeply technical product while also being one of the most popular consumer products in the world. Most popular consumer products (e.g. Facebook, Airbnb) are solving technical problems that come with huge scale but the product itself is technically straightforward. Dropbox both has challenging problems of both huge scale and the product itself is technical.

2) Dropbox has to safely store and sync data for hundreds of millions of users across the world. Many of them are businesses who rely on Dropbox for their operations. They can't afford any data loss or comprising the privacy of their users. This is a huge technical challenge.

3) Last year Dropbox undertook a huge migration away from using AWS to building out their own data center using the most advanced technology available. This Wired article explains why this was especially impressive: https://www.wired.com/2016/03/epic-story-dropboxs-exodus-amazon-cloud-empire/

Why join us?

1) Dropbox is one of the most popular consumer services in the world and still growing quickly. The product has a huge impact on the productivity of millions of people across the globe. Any work you do here will have a lot of reach.

2) We're well known for having one of the strongest engineering teams in Silicon Valley. Guido van Rossum, the creator of Python, joined us 4 years ago.

3) We have a lot of different teams working on a wide range of problems. You will almost certainly be able to find a team working on a technical problem you find interesting.
